Marijuana and BJJ

You've never rolled high before have you?

Oh. I'm sorry.

I just thought we were just naming two items that had no necessary connection with each other at all.

I've done other things high....and I wouldn't dream of rolling while high...or better yet, doing anything I particularly care about while I'm high.

But whatever.

P.S. I've never put a turd on my turkey sandwich either...so I guess I can't say that's a bad idea either.

You are obviously not educated on the topic and just echoing what others have told you with out any kind of argument to present with it

Pot calling the kettle black. Post your confirmation biased "studies" all you want. I never said weed was the devil, I said driving baked was fucked up and that people who put paraphernalia all over their car and stuff the ashtray with roaches deserve what they get. Clear the haze from your computer before you try to prove your arugment with misrepresentation. And quite frankly I'm around high people literally every day so I speak from experience not from what some pot head is trying to sell as the scientific method.

I dont think it's a good idea to smoke before practice, especially if your a white belt and getting tapped a lot. Afterward I would probably recommend that.

Solid first post.

Are you high?

Daily smoking actually turned me off of training for a long time(well that and some shitty friends) but if I'm going to train I don't like to smoke that day. It leaves me feeling burnt out and a little edgy on the mats.

I had to stop recently.

BUT, I used to love getting absolutely baked before practice. I had a system; smoke between 5 and 10 bong loads, immediately brush my teeth and put in eye drops, and drive to class which is only a five minute drive. Then get home and burn some more.

I love rolling stoned, so much fun.

Also, I highly recommend engaging in sexual activity stoned. Wat! :)

I smoked weed pretty much every day for a couple of decades. I used to think it helped in various ways. Other than being relaxing I think that's mostly actually bollocks. My focus, concentration, memory etc etc are all much better now I don't smoke. I will smoke at a party or something if it's around but I don't sit at home getting stoned anymore. Just cannot see the point any more. Rolling stoned sounds hideous. I know it sounds like an anti-drugs cliche but, for most of the time, I prefer reality.

I wonder what rolling drunk would be like!?

I smoked pot a long time ago, before starting training however I know people who use and roll I have no issue with the drug but please smoke, shower then train. The stuff stinks bad plus y'know not good when parents leaving with their kids.

I would never smoke before class,
Just the thought of being all dry mouthed etc when under a heavy side control is really off putting.

I've never smoked before class but I do smoke some nights before bed. That pretty herb gets me into a very relaxed state of mind helps me to think more in depth about techniques and positions and what works best for my game.

I just looooooooove watching bjj tapes when I'm high, I could happily sit through many more hours worth of instructional videos or fights than I would have without a smoke.
Each to their own though.

I prefer edibles to smoking, because I get paranoid easily. I've got an 8 year old daughter and I'd like to keep her in the dark about my indulgences, as well as my disabled mother in law who lives with us.

I have used a vape pen before which was nice. One of my training partners had me try something called 9lb hammer, right before we rolled for about two hours. It enhanced our game so well! Every move was super fluid and we just flowed, position, sub attempt, takedown, reversals, everything was smoother than before. I prefer rolling after I've had Sativa. They have opposite affects on me for some odd reason. For example, I just had a 10mg indica, salted caramel edible and I feel panicked as fuck. I couldn't fight for my life if I wanted to right now. Sorry for the tangent. I'm high as fuck right now.

Nice necro, son. Well done.

I enjoy the moderate use of marijuana and alcoholic beverages in my down time, I wouldn't do either when I have shite to do though (including training).

There is one exception, I have (and probably will again) done some RBSD stuff where we went out drinking for a while beforehand, it was to try and become more aware of how much it impacts reaction time, and ability to deal with situational hazards. Makes sense, and it was done for a reason.

One thing I would like to try someday, although likely never will, is flow rolling with someone while we are both on mescaline. I just think there would be so much depth you would take away from the experience, previously unseen perspectives would open up new horizons and understanding. Possibly. Or more likely, you'd lose interest in the roll quite quickly and start having insights about stuff that had nothing to do with grappling.

I've been training for 5 years. I only consume edibles. I make fairly low dose capsules (10-20mg) and consume them a few days a week in the evening. Rarely do I do this before training. But, when I do, there are clear positives and negatives.

I find it to be difficult when learning and drilling new techniques. I waver during instruction and fumble with grips and/or hand/foot positions when setting up techniques. When drilling, my timing feels a bit off and I feel a bit clunky.

However, when it comes time to roll I feel great. Whether it's hard rounds or if I'm rolling with smaller people and flowing a bit lighter, it is all good. I find myself in better positions, hitting transitions, and recovering from sweeps or missed submission attempts easier.

While this subject probably has been posted before, I appreciate reading all of the different responses. I had assumed most would have a similar experience to mine. i.e. Weed makes it hard to learn, but easy to flow.
