Marijuana and BJJ

Ive been rolling for probably 3 years now and smoking too, but never together. I recently combined the two for a pretty good expierence. One of our heavyweights that usually destroys me couldn't get any subs. It usually takes him about 2-3 minutes to sub me, but nope not this time. We rolled for like 20 minutes and I just felt like I was on fire or something......Will be trying that again soon

Better than bacon and eggs, chicken and avocado, ciggarettes and coffee, booze and ugly women, jiu jitsu and pot... one of the best combinations of any 2 things ever invented, ever.

I smoke often, but never before training, always afterwards.

Yeah, the disrespect thing is kinda tough, our head instructor isn't down with it but several of the assistants are down. I make sure to wash my hands & not totally reek, i also roll with a lot of cops. :)

Nice av

true words have never been spoken.

I've tried it, wasn't really my thing. I always just felt complete useless, and couldn't train well at all. I react weirdly to it though, couple puffs and I'm asleep, it's been that way since high school.

I live in Australia, over here we pull bongs, not toke on them, we are the only people who smoke bongs properly. suck the whole cone through, release the thumb, its not that hard people, and 'serious potheads' smoke anything they can put thier hands on, people who smoke to be cool use words or phrases like 'he bro lets blaze it up'

personally i dont like blazing before class, i feel that im not as focused, im relaxed yes but not as sharp mentally. post workout spliffs truly are a thing of beauty though. specially if your training a lot and come out sore as fuck, smoking a spliff can really relax you.

Since this topic comes up every other week I that's proof weed fucks your attention span skills. Another thing baked dudes don't understand is being baked is as obvious as being drunk. It's more than the smell on your breath or clothes, it's in your voice and the way you act.

actually, this isn't true at all. i honestly don't understand why ppl think everyone who smokes pot is a walking cheech and chong video. sure, some ppl you can tell once you know them well enough, but in my experience the only ppl you can tell are the one's who don't care if you know and are just having fun being ripped goofballs.

my best friend of 11+ years has run the gamut from 24/7 stoner to smoking a few times a week to relax. i know him better than his own mother and to this day i can't tell for sure if he's stoned unless he tells me or i see him light up. when i smoke, i tend to be silly and goofy but that's only if i feel comfortable doing so. when going out in public it's pretty easy to act normal. nobody in my gym knows when i do or don't smoke because i don't make a spectacle of myself. it's just like any other adult having a couple beers and still managing a mature conversation.

that said, i usually don't smoke before rolling. weed can push me a little towards the anxious side sometimes, and unless i'm sure i'm in the right head space, i tend not to risk it. i've had some really amazing rolls while stoned tho. i felt totally relaxed, never seemed to get tired, and didn't have to think as hard. in fact, mj is bad if i need to have focused, methodical thought. i tend to function more on instinct and intuition -- and i'm much less phased when i make mistakes --which is why i think my rolls are better.

for the record: i smoke much less than what most ppl drink. and i drink much less than even that. i enjoy substances, but i'm a lightweight -- and i like it that way.

cheers!

i smoke everyday. though i have a fight coming up so i gotta slow down. but i really enjoy smoking and then slow rolling. nothing super competitive just light rolling to tighten the game up. lets me think a little outside the normal "rules" of grappling

Man, how can you smoke AND do BJJ? My cardio sucks naturally, and even smoking a cigar outside will heavily affect me.

I did some stand up sparring on bud brownies once. That was a trip, but I would get much more creative with my combos.

I actually prefer smoking after I train, it relaxes the muscles. I also recommend it for sprains.

I stand by my statement. Chronics, and I'm not directing this at you, are always whining about getting harassed by the police. Here's a clue: don't put dope stickers on your car, fill the ashtray with roaches and drive around baked. Driving impaired is driving impaired regardless of whether it's booze or your doctor's perscription. No one who uses recreational substances believes it effects them eventhough by definition they are ingesting a mind altering substance. Common sense; just sayin.

Are you a police man?

I think this is somewhat ignorant, I won't drive if I'm near alcohol, I believe people who drive drunk are putting themselves and others at risk and should be punished accordingly, however the same can not be said for marijuana. When you smoke your mind is altered and when you drink your mind is altered. That is were the similarities end. It is true that some people are unable to properly execute difficult tasks after smoking massive amounts of marijuana. However, this tiny minority does not accurately reflect the community of canibus users as a whole. A lot of well thought of, smart, successful, athletic people use recreational marijuana

I wish people realized just how many people around them are high alllll the time and no one but that person knows.

You should try smoking somewhere where Marijuana is legal for sales and consumption by the general public, you may change your position.

Rolled while on LSD once. Pretty difficult, my mind wondered and made it hard to grasp certain movements.
