Poor guy can't catch a break from these brainlet MMA Fans, when he stops fights earlier to protect fighters from further harm, MF'ers be like "rEf sToPs fIgHtS eArLy, fIrE hIm" like when he did with the Kyle Daukaus vs Michel Pereira fight, that was a perfect stoppage, Michel wasn't defending himself

And with the Walker vs Zhang fight, Zhang was defending and was still trying to get up, had the ref stopped it when he was trying to fight back and was rolling on the ground, MF'ers would've cried "eArLy sToPpAgE" but when Marc gave Zhang a chance to do a Cheick Kongo/Pat Barry esque comeback, Zhang failed.

And then you have welad metnaka like TruthfulUfcFan spreading propaganda and untrue things like in this video:

Like, ya welad el sharameet el metnakeen, not every referee is gonna have perfect call, some referees have flaws, like, I can count the number of mess-ups Herb Dean (Khabib/Conor cheating, Stipe/DC 2 cheating, Lawler/Askren stoppage, GDR/Ladd stoppage...etc) did, or Keith Peterson (like Cruz/Cejudo, Zhang/Rose, Carla/Xiaonan...etc), Jason Herzog (like his recent stoppage with Lewis vs Teixeira), and I can mention some of Marc's best calls (Joanna/Zhang 2 stoppage, Jiri/Glover fight, Reyes/Spann stoppage, Izzy/Pereira 1 stoppage that lives in KennyOkoyeMMA's head rent free TILL THIS DAY, Walker/Zhang stoppage, Daukaus/Pereira stoppage)

1756056229601.png

And let's talk about the Walker/Zhang stoppage, you see, in this position, this is not a position to stop a fight, otherwise he would've got up and complained and so as we are, he was trying to stand up as he was putting his hand on the canvas in a position that looks like he will stand up

1756056267762.png

In this second position, he was in the ground position that looks like he wanna do a triangle and can push his opponents by making his legs swing

1756056312450.png

In this third position, he was entering inside Walker's guard to roll to avoid getting G&P'd

1756056344431.png

In this position, he is kneeling, that's not a position to stop it ofc, it's like should've the Yan vs Aljo 1 fight be stopped before Yan throwing the knee or Marvin vs Whittaker? Absolutely not

1756056401095.png1756056410907.png

And finally in this position, this is where Zhang was shelling himself up like a tortoise, can't defend himself anymore, this RIGHT HERE is where a fight gets STOPPED.

Why this ref gets so much hate despite doing his job fantastic? plz be polite, no trolling or joking and be serious in the replies, thanks, have a lovely day.

Edit: Dominick Cruz approves of Marc Goddard

He let it went on because it was the main event with a chinese in a chinese stadion in china. Trying to give him a chance.
That's about it.
Well Duh, but then you have Abnaa metnaka complain it was a late stoppage, that was a perfect stoppage.

He's a bum and a black eye to refs everywhere. He is usually way too involved and seems like he just wants to hear himself talk while he is reffing. When are we getting a downvote button on Sherdog?

He allowed way too many strikes to the back of the head, Zhang wasnt going to stand back up anyway, Walker should had give him some space instead of jumping in like an idiot on a guy that cant walk anymore...but Goodard didnt help either.

Most of all the major refs make mistakes often. And when they bring in other refs, they seem to be worse than the current refs. Being a ref is inherently going to come with mistakes.

But I thought both stoppages were fine here. The Zhang fight could have been called earlier, but since it was the Main Event in China with a Chinese guy Goddard gave him a reasonable chance to fight back in it. Probably didn't want to get shot on the way to the airport for calling it too early.

There was only one back of the head shot that looked blatant. The rest of them could be given a benefit of the doubt as Zhang was actively moving around. You'd have to prove Walker targeted a specific area which is nigh impossible here.

Then its accidental, but still something do with the ref, you give the benefit of the doubt to 1 punch.. not "the rest of them" as in they were more than 1.

Covington Usman 1 Stoppage, and Jiri Pereira 1 Stoppage were both absolute dogshit career destroyers by marc-not-so-goddard

The rule is you can't target the back of the head in a specific area. Getting hit in the back of the head itself isn't illegal unless the ref thinks they are targeting it. There was one I thought was blatantly intentional but the rest it's a grey area. That's all I'm saying.

Usman broke Colby's face whom wasn't defending and Jiri vs Pereira 1, Alex showed he's better than him next fight anyways and Jiri after taking his breath admitted it was the right call, Marc actually saved him to fight again one day.

Herb Dean stopped it a bit late that even DC was like "stop the fight, Herb Dean", if Marc was reffing again he would've stopped it at the exact time Herb stopped it due to how Jiri complained a bit last time the stoppage happened.

Also stop making excuses, a win is a win and a loss is a loss, why you don't say same thing with Keith Peterson stopping the Cejudo/Cruz fight? At least Marc didn't stop Mikcic vs DC 3 fight in round 2 like how Cruz said it himself in the commentary "great reffing job there, not stopping it with 2 seconds left"

Agreed, and cause also Zhang was still trying to fight, if Marc stopped it early, we would've complained, I would've complained too even the fighter but stopped it once Zhang wasn't rolling or defending.
They should get rid of him.
Jason Herzog tells you otherwise when you remember the Lewis vs Teixeira stoppage

Did allow? So what about that refs that allowed shots behind the ears in the Gane/JDS fight?

By this logic, Keith Peterson allowed Rose to hit Zhang at the back of the head In their first fight, same with John McCarthy in the Joanna vs Rose 1 fight, punches behind the ear is legal, dude, also getting punched behind d the back depends on the fighter position has nothing to do with refs, depends on the opponent when he/she turns their heads, stop it.
After Goddard tried to rig the Khamzat/DDP fight he should have been arrested.
No, he was standing thrm up cause the fight was boring, even some fans and refs approve of that, also didn't Herb Dean stood up Dustin and Conor even tho they weren't on the ground for too long?

Any ref would've done what Marc did.

You mention all those other cases like if they were perfectly fine...its not, MMA reffing and judging sucks, stop it.

he's aight, imo get rid of refs. and give each corner a taser. First side to use the taser loses.
