Maia Prayer Vigil

Definitely the same guy Drew, he just looks a little bigger there, he is more cut and lean now. Not to mention he looks larger grappling with Marcelo, compared to his size against the six foot Maia.

Can anyone see this going against Maia? He should move to WW if possible.

Anderson is still going to be around for at least another year. And since Maia won't get another title shot while Anderson is around, he doesn't have many meaningful fights. If he beats another top guy soon he would deserve another title shot, but he won't get one while the champion is the same.

Maia looks pretty skinny at 185 already, WW is not realistic IMO. Anderson Silva will retire soon anyway. Probably after the Okami fight.

I dont' know that that's necessary. The answer to someone being better isn't to change divisions and avoid them, it's to get better. One of the most profound quotes a crazy person said is "It's good for everyone to understand that they are to love their enemies, simply because your enemies show you things about yourself you need to change. So in actuality enemies are friends in reverse." (Gary Busey) It sounds nuts, but really, Silva showed that Maia's takedowns needed work, and his striking wasn't nearly where it needed to be to tackle such a beast. Clearly, Maia had the advantage on the ground, but if he were to (and only if able) drop to WW, how would he take GSP, Fitch, & Kos down? Those are three guys that have shown good wrestling, likely better than Anderson Silva's.

Is this to say that Maia's striking could match Silva's in a year? Probably not. However, in a year or two, it might be just good enough to get inside and trip him, take him down, jump guard, or otherwise take the fight to his point of advantage.

What do you guys think of the Grove fight? I know Grove is having a very good camp for this fight. Kendall is no joke, he has been subbed what, once in his MMA career? Almost beat Munoz and damn near subbed Almeida!!

key word(s) ALMOST.

and nearly subbing almedia? so?

IF somehow, Damien loses this, it will be stand up (see knees in the clinch).

Yeah i understand where and how Kendall wins this fight, i was just making a point of showing if it hits the mat its not a lock.

against a high level player like maia, it is a cinch. Grove has only had 1 sub victory in the past 3 years...
