Maia Prayer Vigil

WE ALL LOVE YOU MAIA , whole F12 is celebrating your win.

I guess were all black...... and love Obama

Great jiu-jitsu by Maia. Sometimes I think he tries to take it a little too pretty, though. With 30 seconds left in the second he should have just face/jaw-cranked the rear naked and hoped for something good. Meh. But phenomenal takedowns and control.

Jiu Jitsu was great as always but now he also looks to be in better shape, hands look stronger, and ground and pound was affective as well.

Can't wait for his next fight. Give him a top 5 guy please. We need to get back in the title hunt (especially if Sonnen some how gets the belt in 2011).

My vote is Marquardt rematch. Give him a chance to avenge his loss.

Really? They actually gave Grove a round???

Yeah the 3rd round, because Maia didn't get the takedown in that round. That's why I'm now calling it Ultimate Takedown Championship.

Same reason why Nam Phan lost to Leonard Garcia. Garcia got takedowns, Phan didn't, therefore Garcia won. Doesn't matter what else happened as long as you don't get KO'd or submitted. If you get a takedown in any round, you automatically win that round.

I agree fully. Nate is coming off a loss, Maia off a win. I would love this rematch. Nate has a good ground game and all but I would love to see Maia pull out the victory.

Hell I think he could pull out not only a victory but a submission.

A rematch with Marquardt would be awesome. I felt so unsatisfied in the first match. I was super excited for that fight, then it ended within seconds.

Rumored next opponent - Michael Bisping. It might be tough if Demien decides to stand with him and it could be difficult to get Bisping to the ground. This could be a good match. Hopefully Maia will go for an unorthodox submission that Bisping isn't used to like a heel hook something. Tough fight but if maia wants another title shot, he definitely has to be able to beat Bisping.

Yeah Gracie Mag reported in an interview with Maia that they want him against Bisping.
Are we seriously still stuck on the "it will be tough for him to get it to the ground" thing though?
HE'LL PULL GUARD IF NEED BE.
Michael Bisping isn't a strong finisher and his ground and pound isn't too on point so I would say this would potentially be another triangle victory for Maia, given that he doesn't waste time standing and getting boxed up. Although his stand up is drastically improved, Bisping is excellent at coming in, scoring points and getting out.

^^^Bigger and better wrestlers have had a hard time getting Bisping down and keeping him there thou

Gotta stop underestimating Maia's wrestling. I've said this recently in another post, but his takedowns, both Judo and wrestling, are VERY good. Anderson, another guy who's wrestling is underestimated, is not the same guy with no tdd that everyone remembers from the Lutter debacle when they fought. If Maia wants to get a fight to the ground with most people, it's gonna happen.

Bisping is crazy underrated, he is hard to TD and his ground game is slick and effective, he has great hip movement. His GnP has finished fights so its not something Maia would want to be under for long periods.

I think its a great fight, a tough fight for Maia but of course he has a great chance if he can get top position and grind Bisping out but as i said, thats no easy task.

Not that i have the experience or right to critique Maia but i think he doesnt GnP enough and it would open up more sub opportunities. As worried as everybody is with his standup, i think developing some GnP power would open a whole new world of options for him as he sometimes seems too BJJ minded on the ground.

have you seen maia vs sonnen?

if not, watch it

then you will see maia take down chael with ease, and i hear chael wrestled one or two times in his life

also, maia got punched up by anderson and made it 5 rounds (even though rounds 2 and 3 were not much fighting)

bisping does not have the power to knock out maia and his footwork is no where near anderson's level

Whats fun about watching Maia is he isnt a BJJ player that has to get the takedown. He just has to get to the ground. His wrestling more than likely is more than adequate to get Bisping down. But if not, this happens.

Bisping is also physically stronger than Anderson, and *gasp* is able to get to his feet much better than Anderson (who generally tries for a subs, or tie up to get the ref to stand them up.....which is why I almost bet on Chael because you know he was gonna take Anderson down and stay busy too...........but luckily I did not :icon_lol:)

Bisping is a tough opponent for sure. Great at scrambling and popping to his feet, will hurt you with GnP. I think Maia needs to have his ground game extra suffocating for this fight, not that it isn't already. I think Bisping has the best ability to pop up and create scrambles of any of his previous opponents.

Not to mention his fantastic footwork.
I'm not sure Demian has the tools to crack all that. I'm a big big Demian Maia fan, but I'm afraid it's gonna be really really tough for him to find simply a good strategy against Bisping. Tough nut to crack.
