He finished Walker impressively although he should have been DQ'd last time and he kicked Walker flush in the nuts before finishing him.

He just managed to eek out an uninspiring draw against Jan in a title fight and then spat the dummy after the judges scored it correctly.

He cured insomnia in the Santos fight.

I'm not a fan of watching him fight but I agree that he's the most suitable candidate to fight for the LHW title in normal circumstances. But like Belal, he's not particularly exciting and IMO shouldn't be on UFC 300 if they want it to be an iconic event that is talked about for years to come.

He's KO'd more than half of his opponents, and rather spectacularly. He fights more measured than most but no way in hell is he boring.

This 100%. Sure look how out of position he was getting ko'd. Ankalaev didn't do anything special. It was just terrible offense by walker. The main reason walker is where he is at is because he is such a specimen at light heavy.
A guy with walkers skill set at a lower weight might not even have a winning record.

I think better than that personally, Aspinalls defence isnt super watertight and I think technically strong counters can often hit above their weight so to speak.

I don't think Aspinall let's it stay standing long and his wrestling, size and BJJ finishes the fight quickly. I honestly think Aspinall finishes that fight in less than 3 minutes most of the time. The Ankalaev fight is a lot more competitive but I don't favor Pereira there either.

In reality, the two are light leagues different in skill, aptitudes, experience, and success.

Johnny Walker = constant failure at the top. Virtually zero skill, just reflexes and power.

Alex Pereira = constant Champion at the top, now in two completely different fighting organizations. Master tactician, professional poise + strategy, matched with crazy power.

I was rooting for Johnny Walker, it's true, but he started backing up too much.

We agree on that, and I also see the danger in Pereira vs. Ankalaev.

The difference is, Pereira is a master tactician, has the best calf-kicks in the business, and 1000x better distance management + cage generalship than Walker.

Not a cakewalk for either, and both have to be on top of their game.
