Magny's a stud, Maia is terrifying

But a fight isn't one round, it's 3 or 5. Can he do that to MacDonald for 3? As of now the past says no and MacDonald should still be getting better at his age. He gasses because it's a lot of work to try and take guys down and keep them there while going for a finish. Anyone who's got top notch ground skills is going to keep him at bay for long enough to beat him on the feet.

Nah, when Maia comes in shape he can go all night.

Jon Fitch was #2 at WW and one of the best wrestlers in the sport when Maia made him look like a child for 3 full rounds. Maia's cardio was killer when he spent 3 rounds effortlessly owning one of the best BJJ prospects in the division, Gunni Nelson, a couple of months ago too.

Maia's never made any excuses himself, but when Maia fought Rory he was in the middle of launching his own business and spending a lot of time supervising the set up of that, not training anywhere close to enough. They rematch with Maia in top condition and it's R1 of their first fight x3 or 5. Rory's handy on the ground but not even close to Jake Shields level - the level you need to be at to handle Maia.

Smurfs 2 soundtrack. Do you even Smurfs bro?

If you know the song from Smurfs 2 we can all assume you're 18 or younger. Do you even Fort Minor bro?

EDIT: I take that back, someone with kids would easilly relate it to Smurfs 2. Ignore 18 and under comment.

Magny kind of reminds me of Condit. He gets take down often, but his guard game is on point so in a lot of fights it is not a big deal. Unfortunately for him with Maia, it's a death sentence most of the time

And we'll all look fabulous doing it!

Problem is Maia´s new improved Judo+Wrestling+BJJ+GnP combo is a nightmare in it´s self.

Only thing that can stop Maia is his age he´s 38. But if he gets he´s shot this year he can be the champion and defend the belt.

He is 38, but I think the new testing has helped even out the playing field for the older guys. Also, somehow, his fitness and cardio levels have looked better than ever.

In the top 10, if you can stay off the mat, you beat Demian Maia.

Lawler is a fuckin nightmare for him

I see them both being each-other's nightmares. I don't think that Lawler is impervious to the takedowns of Maia (no one at 170 has prevented them)

Nice word, brah. Just wanted to say that.
First off, hats off to Magny for what was one of the greatest come backs this year. He is a legit top 5 fighter and improves every showing.

However, this fight tangentially raises Maia's stock. To see how Maia cut through Magny with relatively little effort speaks to just how far ahead his ground game is than any other fighter at MW.

Maia with a gas tank is the champ at 170lbs.

Rory would still slaughter DM if they fought again. Having 5 minutes of cardio isn't good enough.

That's the fight that made Maia open his eyes, and that's why his fitness has been improved ever since. He talks about it all the time in interviews.

I remember Demian fitching the fuck out of Jon Fitch... lol'd the whole fight. Good times, bro...

Maia looks better than ever. He evolved from BJJ Wizard to a pretty complete MMA fighter WITH wizard-like ground game. Hope he gets his shot after he submits Matt Brown.

Hell if we're talking terrifying, what's Toquinho?

And what's Lombard.

Always been a fan of Maia. Have his Bad Boy shirt that I bought when I went to UFC 118 in Boston. Dude's an unbelievable grappler. I love seeing how his opponents break so obviously under his control.

I just remember his ridiculous sprawls when he was bloodied and exhausted against Rory. Fuckin crazy

Maia is simply amazing. He's the least imposing fighter on the roster with no discernable speed or strength [to the naked eye], and yet he manhandles powerful grapplers like they're toddlers.

Matt Brown will get assfucked for 3 rounds in his next fight. He will be embarrassed and suffer exactly what Gunnar Nelson suffered. Respect to Matt Brown but he should flat out reject these types of matchups. Grapplers of a certain level, even Dong circa 8 years ago gave him fits and this will never change. The UFC gave Maia Magny, who is better than Matt Brown in the last fight. Instead of being rewarded with a title shot Maia gets to fight Matt freaking Brown who almost got finished by Eric Silva. The WW title picture is no longer a sport it's a popularity contest if Condit gets the next title shot.

Hmm. I remember the most one sided round of that fight being round one where Maia had his way with Rory. Round 2 was clearly Rory's, and round three was Rory's but it was a competitive round. I don't see anything to critique about Maia from that performance other than his cardio.

I meant Lawler v Rory.
Lawler is really hard to take down, that was my point

Who has Maia failed to take down at 170lbs? that's kind of my point. Plus the fact that Robby has been finished by submissions more than once.

It's all about stylistic match ups. Maia likely would have lost to Lombard yesterday.
