Magic the Gathering removes "racist" cards from its library

Who's "the party" and what does "ban kneeling" even mean? Do you ever have any thoughts of your own or is it all just tribalism and do and support whatever your masters tell you to? Maybe you should take a knee in the corner and let the adults have a discussion.

“If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem,” the president tweeted Saturday. “If not, YOU’RE FIRED. Find something else to do!”

The leader of the Republic party called for protesting NFL players to be fired. If that is not requesting the NFL prevent knowing in protest I don't know what is.

None was offered. It was a bit of the opposite really.

Rightly calling you out for your constant and rampant pedantry isn't a concession. It's just the truth.

but but he's not a Nazi he's a Neo-Nazi!!!

<Dany07>
You did. First you exaggerated, misusing "literal", which you acknowledged. Now you're adding a strawman-- this thread isn't about a defense of that illustrator-- to your concession. To these you're heaping another tablespoon of ad hominem on top. Anything to avoid confronting the issue. Everything is about attaching a stigma by irrelevant proxy.
So he's a white racist wannabe Nazi who plugged in his racists art in a card that's now being removed or adjusted?...

what's the problem? this was obviously a known issue within the community for a while apparently based on what I've read in this thread.
This artist isn't the one being targeted. The corporate hysteria surrounding the outrage mob led by #BLM has become so irrational that they're #canceling the concept of racism itself. They aren't even targeting illustrations, specifically. They're removing any cards associated with the concept. This is in a fantasy card game where you summon minions to slaughter, torment, and otherwise annihilate your enemies.

When you consider it in the context of athletes getting fired for tweets by their wives, broadcasters getting fired for innocuously responding to questions put to them with responses that are wholly positive and within the domain of work, actors for being fired for tweets from years ago that hold no racist denotations, LEGOs being canceled, movies being removed, dictionaries changing definitions, athletic associations yielding to partisan outrage, and cartoons promising not to portray the police positively...well, you notice a problematic pattern.

That's if you're not a moron, or worse, a totalitarian who secretly supports censorship, and the intimidation campaigns that fuel them while destroying careers and companies.

You are entombing yourself in a partisan echo chamber if you can't step back, look at this, and realize how draconian this movement has become.

It's a game. You summon devils, demons, and other agents of evil, chaos, or destruction to your side in some decks. You cast enchantments that control creatures against their will. That's slavery. Now you can't do that? Cool, wipe those cards out. Hey, I noticed the cards where you "sacrifice" a creature still remain. Hmm, that's pretty Old Testament, isn't it?

It's insane because I remember when I was a kid the whackos were the crazy Christians. There were some kids in my town whose parents literally wouldn't let them play this card game because it had "witchcraft". Some were Mormon, some were Pentecostal, some were just your garden variety non-denominational revivalists. Yet I don't recall any of them or their parents demanding that Wizards of the Coast not be allowed to exist, or demanding for the company to change its demonic business. They didn't seek to intimidate businesses or lawmakers. They simply didn't buy the cards.

This radical new left is vastly more toxic and intolerant than even the batty Christians of my youth. It blows my mind. The moderates and the mainstream leftists seem willing to make a deal with this devil, because they calculate they'll get them what it wants, but I don't think they're wisely exploring the full repercussions of this Faustian deal.
4-5 years ago posters on this sub-forum were being called loons for saying that the left has become the old 90s bible thumping right.

I believe those that said that are well past being able to say “I told you so”

IIRC, some white boys I knew tried to drag me into it once back in the 90s...

Magic is actually booming right now, Hasbro is making a killing off Wizards.

They're trying to sell the game to everyone now, not just dorky white guys, and it's working... Magic's revenue was up 30% last year, and it's been growing nearly uninterrupted since 2009. Magic Arena is bringing tons of people into the game from all over the world.

It was no exaggeration, in the common-speak on the internet in 2020, calling someone a literal Nazi is the same thing as calling them a Neo-Nazi or whatever word makes you feel better about defending a literal Nazi.

Calling you pedantic isn't an ad hominem, it's literally the truth, I'm certainly not the only one to notice your pedantry.

This is why we can’t have nice things. Just imagine if all those kids were interested in science instead.

Indeed, it has been, that's precisely what destroys the arguments this gesture was required to improve business. I wonder where you got the idea this success (which has been true for years) has anything to do with "trying to sell the game to everyone now." It sounds like you're accusing them of not trying to sell it to everyone before. That makes no sense, and I'd be interested to see the evidence they marketed to racists, previously. Magic has had an international presence for over two decades. Germans were winning the world championships in the 90's, for example.

Furthermore, where are you drawing your data that this supposedly greater non-dorky white guy appeal is contributing to their success? Here's a picture from Magic's largest annual tournament in the world last year in Las Vegas:

I'm pretty the yugioh market and pokemon kids are grown now so the magic game is probably targeting that demographic.

I have yet to see any pro-business justification beyond empty rhetoric. You already prejudicially assumed this was needed to improve business out of your ignorance. As has been pointed out to you...business has been great with those cards in the library.

That is simply not true, but I suppose you thinking that is kind of the goal of censorship. Give it a little time and people will forget the original even existed. I'm afraid you and your daughter got a sanitized version.

https://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/07/books/07huck.html

No idea what you are talking about. You linked to a article about a guy eliminating the n word in one edition. I'm still not sure what you mean by sanitized. I bought her copy on Amazon and it, like most versions, had the N word. Is there some other way it has been changed that I am missing?

Who's the party? The elected leader of the conservative party tweeted this weeekend “Could it be even remotely possible that in Roger Goodell’s rather interesting statement of peace and reconciliation, he was intimating that it would now be O.K. for the players to KNEEL, or not to stand, for the National Anthem, thereby disrespecting our Country & our Flag?”

what does ban kneeling mean? It means banning kneeling dummy. In 2018, the league tried instituting a rule that banned on-field protests during the anthem. Derp.

But now you incels are triggered over magic the gathering cards?
That's not banning knealing, dumbass, it's telling players not to turn their job of playing with a ball for money into a political protest against the country of all the fans that are buying tickets. The same way you can't go to your job at burger king and tell Mexican customers what a shithole Mexico is and expect to still work there. You can spend all of your own time on your knees, which I'm sure you already do, and a team can tell their players to stand during the national anthem like everybody else in the stadium who actually paid to be there and are the ones responsible for all of the team's revenue.

I myself don't care and don't watch football no matter what they do, so is it possible for you to speak as your own person or are you such a simpleton that everything must be an argument on behalf of your political party? Why would you feel the need to demand censorship of things you already said you don't play, read, watch or listen to?
