Its an old problem often referred to as "burning up the route. " Orignates from the time prior to the transportation/ trucking/& delivery services being unionized. Employees often suffered unrealistic expectations and quotas due to a hotshot or kiss ass going balls to the wall. Often cutting corners, compromising safety, working off the clock, forfeiting breaks, & afforded preferential circumstances. Creating expectations that were totally & often not scalable or repeatable.
You see a very similar scenario to people who are unfortunately indentured to their visas. It's not intentionally done. They are just trying to survive I guess. I don't think the issue is that we suck, quite the opposite. We have a roaring economy that hungers for workers and in some sectors those workers are disproportionately immigrants. I don't think we need to see that as an indictment of American workers or students.
