That's not true. It was never the general sentiment that he was the best welterweight they'd seen. I've definitely seen some prominent posters comment before he had the title that his wrestling Is awful and it's crazy how he's gotten so far while looking so bad. It's for sure not a comment sentiment, but it's certainly something that has been expressed here several times.

I'm 100% certain if you polled sherdog at any point in time in the last 2 years and asked who is a better welterweight between shavkat and Jack della they'd pick shavkat every time. JDM had a good performance against belal, usually people don't have much to say after a good performance, but of any undefeated fighter at ww recently (JDM, Garry, shavkat, Brady, Morales) I've always seen jdms projected ceiling as lowest. I think most posters would agree. And not just today. They'd have agreed then too

You're going to see the people who were propping up JDM hop on Morales/Prates trains. Which is good, WW is ridiculously stacked. JDM's TDD was good enough for Belal, but not Islam. He clearly made progress but is going to struggle with the really good wrestlers.
