Lyoto Machida was pretty elite till he went to MW

Got robbed against Rampage too

It was almost like the judges were getting back at him for the Shogun win

He got caught drinking dirty piss.

What a brilliant excuse, you should contact Lyoto's management

of course he was. in the most stacked, top-heavy, high parity division ever, he was one of the best. that says it all.

in the era between Chuck & Jon there were 5 champs and Hendo. those 6 were all very close, and they all had wins and losses against each other. Forrest was clearly 6th best of the 6, Machida was probably between #2 - #4, depending on bias. he lost to Rampage, but fought better than night (the most quintessential example of why the 10 point must system blows, ever)

but did anyone ever really doubt it?

He wasn't going anywhere at 205, he was too small.
As soon he went down his career got a second life.

Yeah whether a fighter was a rookie or a decade into his career, every single fighter's decline was usada and not age or wear.

Well don't you find it a tad bit coincidental that a lot of fighters started declining and pissing hot after USADA was implemented?

<Fedor23>

he should have never lost to phil davis
that was a big win but he got robbed

Cmon dude... He lost the edge for many reasons. Aging combined with limited supplementation is a bad combo. Dropping to the correct weight class was not 1 of them.

No, because lots of fighters are ALWAYS starting to decline. It would be silly to think USADA hasn't effected anyone, but it's equally silly to blame every fighters decline on peds. Machida started fighting in 2003 and didn't start to seriously decline until 2015.

Not bad or in any way suspect for a guy with a fighting style that HEAVILY relies on movement and reflexes. It's not like he was 2 years into his career and suddenly looked like crap. Pettis is another one where everyone cries USADA, but he didn't decline until almost a decade into his career.

He was still holding it down after 35 until testing got more strict. I don't think it helped.

Or until he finally ran into the wrong matchups. His decline started with ko losses to Rockhold and Romero. Not like he lost to scrubs. Sure it COULD be related to USADA, but how many guys are still in their prime after 12 years of fighting? Not many. Even Fedor didn't get a 12 year prime.

And just because you're winning fights doesn't mean you're in your prime. Decline usually starts years before a fighter starts losing to everyone. Fedor didn't lose until Werdum, but by the Arlovski fight you could tell he was slowing down.

His style relied too much on speed and reflex, then he got older and whatnot.

He was also aging. Probably had something to do with the gradual decline.

Machida was elite until he fought actual elite competition.

You literally are so butthurt over my post, you made a thread about it. LOL

Alot of ppl are mentioning aging

Tbh, it was moreso his lack of adjustments to the game.

When he first came to the UFC he was very elusive, hard to take down. Eventually Rua exposed his lack of boxing defense and caused him to be out.

His takedown defense wasnt getting any better either.

Here and there he would get the W, but against the top guys he would struggle.

i think he lost speed, or got figured out.

but idk he still dangerous. it has to be either usada or other things. His weakness would always be superior grappler or someone who outstrike him. He was always good striker but was not like anderson silva level.

I wouldn't say he got robbed, he was a point fighter and got beat by a better point fighter. Who really got robbed in that fight was the fans, that was on the order of Tyron Woodley boring. Even his corner said he was losing.

lol @ thinking you're even on my level

Machida lost the Davis fight due to the takedown, in my opinion as a Machida fan here.

As for his decline, Machida's age caught up to him.

@Peteyandjia can you confirm whether machida should have won or lost
