Lyoto Machida - Is he a legend?

He barely used it. He turned wrestler not long after getting in the UFC and went almost pure wrestler after Serra.

No! As some others have posted, great fighter, but "legend" gets tossed around way too much for a sport whos premier organization is less than 30 years old.

Lol at all the people saying he took steroids. It's fucking 7 Keto DHEA, I fucking found that shit at my local GNC store. On a side note, I'm a huge Machida fan and in all honesty I'm on the fence about him being a legend of the sport. However, wasn't there talks of him going into the UFC Pioneer wing back in the day (around the time he fought Mousasi) ? That is something I would heavily agree with as he put Karate on the map and was clearly an elite fighter. He's legit for his time without a doubt.

Haha its funny coz whenever theres a karate fighter in the ufc or any other organzations machida's name always pops up in the head of the commentators. No one does it better than machida.his name is always in the conversation whenever theres a new karate fighter

Machida giving us shad face catapults him into legendary status imo haha.

absolutely. he had his own era of mma

He was laying out Penn and Franklin before it was cool

He gets in the Hall quite easily. Legendary status is debateable.

"Legendary status " is about when things were not organized yet... Helio Gracie,Kimura,Maeda,Waldemar Santana, Rickson , Rei Zulu etc... are legends

I am open to having an argument about it.

Why do you think he is a legend?

I personally think that he was a good fighter but UFC has had a lot of good fighters. Not sure what makes machida special

great all around fighter. had the striking, grappling, tdd, and good fighting IQ. people consider Shogun a legend but Machida was no doubt the better all around fighter. where as shogun's achilles heel were wrestlers, machida thrive vs wrestlers. machida had no achilles heel. he had loses to guys like jones, rockhold, romero but does guys are studs and you cant win them all.

He deserves legend status for giving us Shad face imo. Never forget.

Machida has 7 losses in MMA and 5 out of those 7 were wrestling based fighters. Romero, Weidman, Jones, Davis and Rampage.

rampage and davis were bullshit decisions and romero and jones are studs so was weidman back then.

Again, 5 out of his 7 losses were against wrestling based fighters. Just saying.

already told you. 2 of those 5 were bullshit decisions and everyone loses to jones and romero is a stud. he also gave weidman a good fight.

and why bring those guys up. are you really using them to argue that shogun had as good of tdd as machida. you must be joking if thats the case you are trying to make. ask anyone how good machida's tdd is and they will tell you it was amongst the best.

The terms "legend" and "HoFer" are thrown around so much here and by the UFC they have lost all meaning.

"HoF" fighters IMO are long term champs like Aldo, Jones, GSP, Anderson, Fedor, Chuck, Faber, Hughes, Tito, Royce, Franklin, etc.

"Legend" is hard to define in a sport so young but the closest are people who went on monster runs against great opposition where they looked unbeatable, like Anderson, GSP, Jones and Fedor.

I don't consider Stephan Bonnar a "HoF" fighter because he helped expand the brand. The only people who should care about the financials of the UFC are the UFC and their business partners, trying to define greatness by profit to the UFC is retarded. In that case PVZ is probably "greater" than Machida.

Legends are people that will be remembered 50-100 years from now. I don't think Machida falls into that group. Great fighter tho.
