Lyoto Machida appreciation thread

Why is nobody bring up the fact that he got caught by usada ? I thought that sherdoggers hated cheaters ?

Because he didn't? He told them he took a supplement with DHEA in it and they banned him for two years. Which is insane, DHEA doesn't do anything, I've taken it myself and you can buy it anywhere.

Imo, the Brunson KO was a result of not fully recovering from the brain damage Romero gave him. Lyoto should have taken the rest of the year off.

Machida didn't do well against other southpaws, especially when they had power. It's because he keeps his hands low. When he is in southpaw stance and his opponent is orthodox it wasn't a big deal because of the extra space between them. Later he finally started adjusting and would switch to orthodox himself when fighting southpaws so they had space between them again.

Against Brunson he pivoted off as he would against an orthodox fighter, but because Brunson was southpaw also Machida pivoted into his (I believe) left hook.

the brunson KO really killed me as a fan. On paper that was a very winnable fight for Machida. A sloppy wrestle brawler, albeit with big power, but a sloppy guy on the feet chasing the elusive precision striker was Lyotos fight to lose and to get flatlined like that was utterly disappointing.
All that told me was that Machida was no longer at his best. I'm not picking Brunson over a prime Machida.

His style was interesting. Too bad he was (and still is) a cheater. I still hate his first fight against Mousasi.

Machida was elite for most of his career.
He makes the goat list ( further down the ladder).
I agree he beat rampage ( Quinton, himself, thought he lost until DW told him to shut up- u won [ not in those words] ).

I actually forget the P.Davis fight ( part the thousands of fights I've taken in and part " it was a Phil Davis fight")

I thought Carvalho got jobbed in his fight against Lyoto.

All in all , machida appreciated.

The elite poster, who says Shields, Marquardt and Okami were never elite. Elite bias

Ok DHEA is a banned substance in every sport but it doesn't do anything. I wonder why they are taking it if it doesn't do anything then.

I thought he beat shogun the first time. The commentating was really bad in that fight.the rampage fight was really bad. The first round machida landed a bunch of leg kicks and two good body kicks. The leg kicks even momentarily wobbled Jackson for a second. All rampage landed that round were grazing punches and weak punches to the body when they were clinched up

As I already said, it was in a supplement he was taking.

And we are talking about the same retarded organization that allows Jones to openly juice for the rest of his career. A lot of what they do doesn't make sense.

Been on the war wagon for a long time :) see sig.

Machida was too small for LHW (especially current LHW) and the cut was too hard on him at MW..

But still one of my favourites.. When he got older and did not have the speed for him, it was the beginning of the end. Definitely one of those fighters (stephen thompson in my mind) that don't like to get hit..
But when he hits the target clean, man, you're up for a highlight reel knockout

He def lost the Shogun fight and def beat Davis. I thought he beat Rampage but the 1st round was weird, couldve went either way maybe even a draw TBH

u forgot to include Tito, Carvalho, Munoz, Sokoudjo (pretty sure he was top 10 ranked, 4-1 and coming off the b2b wins over Arona/Hogerio), Nakamura, Dollaway and Thiago (was 13-0 and finishing everyone, second undefeated battle Lyoto was in after Heath and pre Shad)

The Anders fight was also controversial, couldve went either way

I remember thinking that fight was pretty close and people were exaggerating when they said Shogun ran away with it.

Not sure which KO was more brutal the Shogun KO or the USADA KO..

Love Lyoto. Brutal KO's and also some remarkably dull fights.

Sherdog only hates on black guys that get caught ....Jones and Anderson are shit on , but it’s cool for everyone else
