LW shaping up perfectly... Ferguson vs Barboza?

Looking at this most would think El Cucuy dominated. Short Notice Edson still gave him problems. A re-match will both full camp is a must, one of the best fights recently.

He didn't "give him problems". That's Ferg's game. He fights with constant pressure and isnt' afraid to eat some shots in order to accomplish what he wants to accomplish offensively. Barboza landed good shots yes, but against Ferg that's kind of the norm. At some point his chin won't hold up and he'll pay the price but it's probably not gonna be anytime soon. Ferg is just a nightmare matchup for Barb because Ferg fights coming forward nonstop and knows Barboza will crumble under the pressure even if it means Ferg has to eat a few shots to make it happen.

When TS makes a fail thread, don't reward him by posting in it. Unless for the purposes of shaming him.

Yeah, it was a great competitive fight. That elbow that cut Barboza in the 2nd just changed the momentum. Edson clearly took round one and while dealing with that illegal kick from Ferguson.

Again, this isn't to criticize Barboza but the reality is that Fergusen is just more durable and has more ways to win. To be fair he's more durable than most guys, not just Barboza. And durability can be a non factor depending how a fight plays out but with Ferg's style it's always a factor. You won't see a kickboxing match from the outside with Ferg vs Barboza ever. It will never look like Barboza/Pettis. And if Ferg is in Edson's face and constantly pressuring him it's kinda easy to see which guy will break.

This division is great. Look at all of the contenders. Alvarez, Nurmagomedov, Ferguson, Diaz, Barboza. Chiesa, Iaquinta, and probably Poirier are right on the cusp. Cerrone, Pettis, and Melendez could be back in the mix with a good win. You have solid up and comers like Magomedov and Taisumov. Oh yeah, there is this guy named Conor McGregor. On top of that, you have Gaethje and Brooks both talking about testing free agency when their contracts are up. Either of them would come in and immediately be in the mix.

Wow!

They need to do RDA vs Khabib first. Thats the fight to make TS.

What a fail. Just be a man about it and admit it, you will be forgiven. The worst thing is playing it like you knew they just fought, where you clearly didn't.

I'm good with Barboza landing those good shots on short notice that would put a lot of people in the LW on the backseat of the fight. Ferguson was not looking "impressive" to me as it seems to you, just took advantage of Edson's mistakes and lack of specific training, he went there and did his thing and barely considered Ferguson's strength and qualities.

in a rematch i don't see the same scenario and whoever win would go home hurt too. Thats just my opinion tho maybe you see Ferguson as far superior striker and/or overall MMA fighter than Edson.

The upkick rocked the shit out of Barby and changed the fight. So an illegal strike tainted the fight.

Quit acting like you guys don't want to see that fight again. Unbelievable :P

Anyone else think Barboza may well be the biggest LW on the roster? Granted Pettis is a pretty tiny 155 but it dawned on me recently that Edson is a very large man for this division.

I swear this place gets worse every single day, probably the new forums or something dunno, but it's really bad

Idgaf. It was my favorite fight
since McDonald/Lawler II.

I'll watch that shit forever.

No he's not a "far superior fighter" he's just a horrible stylistic matchup (whereas someone like Pettis or Felder are great stylistic matchups for Edson). Do I think Ferguson is better? Yeah I do. Do I think he's WAY better? Probably not. But I think his style is one that will always be one that Edson can't deal with. You can't stay on the outside and avoid the kind of pressure Ferguson brings when he's willing to eat some shots to close distance and make you uncomfortable. And once he does get in close it's his world and Edson is in trouble (which we saw).

There's no adjustments that will close the gap in durability or keep Ferguson from pressuring him. If a bunch of fights happen in between now and then and Ferguson goes through some wars and his chin shows signs of cracking that's a different story. At that point his style is not sustainable. But until then there's really nothing Edson can do to counter what Ferguson brings. Doesn't mean Edson isn't a very good striker because he is.

Not right now. Somewhere down the line. Give Barboza the chance to avenge that Cerrone loss.

Khabib / Barboza is the fight to make. Barboza looked amazing, the best I've seen him, against Pettis.
