Hot Take LW is a mess because UFC sidelined Arman

Ilia really ducked Arman.

Weak shit from the UFC

Ilia Arman was best fighting the best.

Instead we got Paddy vs Gaethje.

Pretty much agree on everything.
It's weird, and I know sounds like knocking on Ilia, but I really, really wish he'd actually fight the *current* crop of dangerous/interesting fights. I'm 100x more interested in seeing Ilia vs Arman, Paddy, or yes even Gamrot, than I am seeing him go against chinny, old fighters on their way out/guys he's already beaten, who happen to be old, chinny fighters on their way out. I'll give him this: he's very "professional" in his fight selection and legacy. Cool. But actually fighting more, against the best, would be great.

To keep the shitting from being solely on Ilia, Islam vs Usman is comical. Just. . . . no.
With bigger money for star fighters.... comes the "career management" aka Money Mayweather school of cherrypicking.
Which tends to be fight guys with name value whole they are not at their best but still have box office drawing power.

For Ilia right now, Justin Gaethje with a belt - at the White House is pretty high value and solid risk to reward ratio.

The only option that would potentially outweigh that would be fighting a guy for HIS belt (Islam) and you keep yours or could just skip the line to get it back.

Kind of winds up being a "Don't hate the player hate the game" type scenario. These guys have a limited window to make money and they have serious risks in doing so. If they take fights which make sense for them and not the fans, I don't like it; but I get it.

Paddy vs Justin Gaethje for the #5 LW in the UFC title is a double whammy because not only was this #5 v #6 for a title but it also pretty much locks in #5 for the next title shoteven though he lost to #3 &#4

Arman is obviously a very good fighter, but I'm still not understanding positioning him as some sort of boogeyman. He lost to Gamrot, barely beat an aging Charles, and Hooker actually looked pretty good against him until he started pulling guard with guillotines like an idiot. Pretty sure Ilia is gonna cleave right through him too.

Yep, it’s the same group of hipster contrarians who prop up anyone and everyone UFC “doesn’t like.”
He's obviously a great talent and the Topuria fight would be one of the best fights the UFC could put on.

But he's done himself nothing good to put the UFC's confidence in him that he wont fuck everything up. Quite the opposite lol

The drill he did is an extremely common wrestling drill. They do it everywhere, all the time. At least in freestyle, can't talk about folkstyle as I'm not American. In my son's wrestling club the adult wrestlers do it every time before training.

Edit: just type wrestling neck bridge circles and it will pop up

Yeah all that's true

but you shouldnt be injuring yourself doing this lol

That is CRAZY

They made this Justin problem, they can't skip it now.

Arman will have to take another fight, honestly, but the point should be that he shouldn't have had to.

I get thinking he could be punished for not making it to the title fight, but even when "You had a title shot in your hand that never materialized" happened in the past? It usually didn't take too much of a turnaround to get the promised title shot back.

He didn't get rebooked for the title fight he had originally been booked for? Ok. But then he wasn't booked for the vacant title that followed. So then he beats one of the only other few contenders with a ranked streak, but despite that, he wasn't picked for the interim fight. And now that means he just can't be picked next because of the unification.

Mind you, although everyone now thinks Hooker is a can, the UFC thought Justin should have beat him to get his own title shot, and when that fight fell through, Justin instead fought a guy directly 2 steps below Hooker and got it anyway.

So when Arman beat the #1 contender and a guy fthe UFC had booked to fight for the title in Charles, and the guy the UFC had slotted in what was essentially an eliminator in Hooker, then anyone still thinking Arman should deserves a sideline might as well think the UFC should have just cut him entirely

Yes AND, Arman weighed in as a backup for the previous title fight. The "will he make weight" is dispelled as he's done it twice in the past year without incident, and he does not have a rich history of missing weight in the first place.

Dana White is a professional liar. That isn't even a judgement, that is just plainly true and can be demonstrated repeatedly on video. Whatever he said about Arman, its reasonable to assume he's lying or exaggerating. We'll never know what happened, but saying he can't make weight is factually absurd.

JG got outclassed then BRUTALLY knocked out by Max, then fights for an interim title after winning a decision against a fringe top 10 opponent. Its really just pants on head backwards and the UFC has abandoned any merit or logic in bookings.

It wouldn't be so awful if these guys weren't getting terrible revenue split as pay and can make life changing money with a title shot.

We just had Paddy Pimples fighting for an interim belt and there’s people trying to argue that the division isn’t a mess? Some of you get into the liquor a little early today?

Id love to see Arman finally get his shot, but lets be real, hes on the fat goofs shit list now. Only way he ever gets it is if he starts to fight often and wipes out all contenders so he becomes undeniable.

I guess we don't even need to have fights since you already know exactly how things play out.

No we need to have fights without a big skills discrepancy. Like Topuria Vs Tsarukuan for example.

Max/Do Bronx is another example of a good fight.

They could build a stadium in Armenia and come fight time, Arman would come down with the green apple splatters 10 min before bell time.

I bet a simple and one time donation of a million dollars to the Dana White Fund would change his fate

That aint shit to Dana.

He wants the fights he set up to actually happen, not for this unpredictable doofus to break someone nose at the weigh ins.

It's funny because they are the ones who THINK they aren't the "wwe fans" of this shit. Meanwhile in reality, they are fucking marks Cheering for stone cold to "take it to vince mcmahon" without even knowing it.

No we don't we need fighters who earn things to get those things that they've earned. If they squander that which they have earned, they must earn it again because that's all that's fair to the rest of the fighters who have been out earning their place. It shouldn't be reserved for when they feel like it.

Gethje had two title opportunities, and just beat fringe top 15 Fiziev and overrated Paddy. He's the definition of not deserving.
