Counting win/losses/draws/no contests and anything I could possibly be missing. Only MMA fights so not counting if they had kickboxing fights or something like that.

Is Cain? He was only 8-0 when he fought Brock and won his first title.

brock was like 2-1 when he got his shot at randy. 1-1 in the ufc.

*bj penn nodding his head for likes*

It'll forever be Brock. Beats Herring, loses to Mir, gets a title shot against Randy.

That was the end of UFC being a legitimate sport and all about the money and freak show fights.

Hold on a second bud. Brock, until Stipe broke the record, was tied for most HW title defenses in history. Lesnar won the title and defended it twice which is as long as anyone the prior 20 years held the belt.

Joe Soto

Fought TJ for the title on short notice. For his debut. 0-0 in the UFC prior

Andre Pederneiras was 1-0 in MMA when he fought Pat Miletich for the WW belt. 0-0 in the UFC too.

Record

Edit: Noticed you said modern UFC, it'd be Brock then. Could've been Toney if he had beaten Randy :D

That's not the argument. Brock had 1 fight in the UFC and was coming off a loss and got a title shot. Why? Because he was big, strong and a former WWE wrestler. That's it. That was the start of the money era in the UFC and it has only gotten worse. He didn't earn his title shot. He got it because he was a celebrity.

No, he fought Mir in his UFC debut and lost then he won his next 4 fights. You can't characterize Lesnar as a celebrity who wasn't really a fighter and who got something he didn't deserve. He tied the all time Heavyweight defense record.

Weidman was like 6-0 or some shit in MMA not the UFC before fighting Anderson.

There’s already been a few answers better but Eddie Alvarez had a decent quick one. He lost to Cerrone, then beat Pettis and Melendez for a title shot. 1-2 three fights

Actually.. loses to Mir THEN beats heath herring, goes on to beat Randy for belt, beats Mir to a pulp, unifies against Carwin.

You must be new here. Ufc stopped being a sport when they got rid of 155

He earned his title shot when he beat the champ

what does your drivel have to do with the thread title?

He earned his title shot when he beat the champ

And then defended twice after that. In his defenses he TKO'ed Mir at UFC 100, headlining the biggest card of all time, and then he arm triangled Shane Carwin into a living death, showing that he was an actual mixed martial artist who could win with striking or with submissions. Lesnar is not the greatest of all time but he is definitely a legit fighter with a legit skill set.

Let's not forget the fact that he was an NCAA champ wrestler...
