Losing interest in current UFC, after 12 years following MMA

Is it just me, or is the UFC not super exciting at the moment? I'm talking about the last 3 or 4 months.
Also, I cannot see anything super exciting happening in the near future. It's kinda lacking big stars and big names, it has somehow become kinda dull.

It's fully possible the problem is me though.

It's like that for almost 4 years. And only getting worse and worse. There are no exciting matchups scheduled. UFC and mma in general is folding.

What sport is exciting as ever?

Most main events have never been that good IMO. It often ends-up being wars in the octagon since the pandemic began. Fights looking like sparring sessions have almost disappeared.
The only issue is with the absence of big name, but its only a question of time before a new star is born.

There's Adesanya Vs Cannonier, Usman Vs Edwards, Volk Vs Holloway III, Whittaker Vs Vettori, Tsarukyan Vs Gamrot, Cruz Vs Chito, Aldo Vs Merab, Yair Vs Ortega, RDA Vs Fiziev, Blaydes Vs Aspinall, Sterling Vs TJ and Costa Vs Rockhold booked. Surely there's something exciting in there.

Adesanya Cannonier is a mismatch, Usman vs Edwards is interresting, rest are rematches or some no names without exciting skillset.

It goes in about 3-4 cycles I’ve noticed. Not necessarily at its peak right now

Started watching MMA in 2004 (Shammy v Tito, their first fight - Bravo put the event on as a replay). Used to love WWF and Shamrock, so was very interested to see him in a real scrap.

Then TUF came around, which was epic. I was instantly hooked.

I still love it as much as I did back then, and aside from snooker, don't watch any other sports. These last 2 events have been absolute fire.

I’ve been a fan of this sport for 11 years now and I never cease to be entertained. The first half of the year was pretty mediocre, but the second half should be awesome.

Interest has ebbed and flowed over time for me. Same as other sports. Sports are a fun diversion some times but you can only watch other people play sports so much before it gets old.

Take some vitamins and stop drinking coffee.
When we get old we need to keep everything the body can deliver for watching fights and drinking.
Scratch everything else including sex. Divorce your wife and don't hang out too much with your children!

I have been a fan for years, but was historically a bigger boxing fan until the last decade or so
Now I find that I am becoming a bigger boxing fan again

Few in MMA interest me as much as Inoue, Fury, Usyk, Canelo, Bivol, Loma, GGG etc and there are many more rising star like Haney, Stephenson

The UFC still obviously put on better cards

You can add Tank Davis, Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia, Charlo twins, Crawford, Spence, Boots Ennis, Victor Ortiz, Jared Anderson, David Benavidez etc.

A lot of these guys are mid 20s still which is insane. Been a huge MMA fan since the 90s, however, I feel like this year (with the matchups as well) the tide has clearly shifted back to boxing. The P4P list is so deep and debatable that people are now doing top 15 lists, and you can’t go wrong with whoever you select. Definitely a golden era for talent in boxing with stupid levels of depth in almost every division.

The UFC needs to find it’s rawness again and stop trying to manufacture guys that just aren’t that good (Sugar Sean and Paddy are good examples). They need to start recruiting better fighters.

Been watching UFC since UFC 1. I would say the current talent levels and amount of high quality fights have never been better. This is a great time to watch the sport.

You are probably tired of the saturation and watered down cards since UFC put on events almost every weekend but I rather have watered down events than no events.

There is a big lack of stars, I feel there are many reasons, there are lots of reasons.. 1 reason I want to point at is back in the day there was not many events, for instance we would get a UFC PPV every 2 months, and no fight nights or anything else.. so everyone came off as a star, even the prelim fighters you knew who they all were and you knew everything about them, because there were long gaps between events so it gave time to pump up the show and get excited and build it all... but now there are sooooooooooo many events and they all just blend into each other, so no one really comes off as a star anymore.

I know I am a old fogey so perhaps I'm losing my memory, but I have a hard time remembering stuff these days in UFC, there are just so many events and nothing sticks out, they all blend into one another, and its straight on to the next one and I forget most of whats just happened.
I preferred the old format also. 8 cards per year or so and they were all stacked. You watched every one.

I find UFC rules can lead to boring fights. I want Pride rules and ring back. And their fighter entrances.

You could argue that belts switching regularly means there's more competition tbf.

Though really two of the current champions in Volk and Usman have never lost a UFC fight, so I think there are still dominant guys around.
It's certainly a lot easier to lose in MMA than it is boxing but the level of talent is also not on the same level, especially in the heavier divisions. It's hard to market a fresh champ and by the time they have some marketability they lose.

I do find myself less emotionally invested in fights these days. I definitely have less "favorite fighters" than I used to have too. Everything just kinds of blends together at this point

I've only watched the bigger cards for years. Too much saturation kinda made me lose interest years and years ago.

I still enjoy it, even after watching it pretty consistently the last twenty years. There are definitely some lulls and bad cards, but overall they're good and entertaining.
