Losing interest in current UFC, after 12 years following MMA

Tournaments make titles useless. You’re just another competitor when the next tournament starts.

sorry but this sport isn’t about seasons. It’s perpetual. You may not like it but that’s just the way it is. Boxing doesn’t have tournaments either. It’s not to keep costs down.

Sorry, nobody mentioned "seasons", that's your strawman. Schedule =/= seasons, you can try & work out the differences yourself. [inb4 you nitpicking this because the rest of your post is so laughably wrong]

Champions are not champions when they defend their belt, so they're "just another competitor" when they fight already.

Boxing has meritocratic, results-based pathways to titles; you're wrong again. And yeah, the UFC's policy of locker room payments & secret individual contracts has absolutely zero to do with keeping costs down

Bottom line: If you're advocating for maintaining the status quo in MMA you're not a fan, you're a mark.

UFC has felt really different and kinda off since the ESPN partnership. I still watch every fight night, PPV. Don’t really care about the contender series, watch highlights of it sometimes and TUF has been dead for years. Overall I don’t like the current presentation of the UFC.

UFC is dying bro

I tend to take breaks from MMA in general to maintain my interest. Maybe try watching other combat sports? I recommend Muay Thai, kickboxing or Greco Roman wrestling

I lost interest a long time. I can't even remember the last ufc fight I watched, much less a whole event. The last whole event I watched was probably Shogun vs Machida 2 lol

I've been losing interest for the past 4 years or so... it's not the same. Just like with everything once corporate greed (the mindset of corporate greed) touch's it you can expect all your favorite things to become shit. It's just the nature of business owners to become greedy and water things down... so many new restaurants start off really good, fresh food, cooked perfectly etc... then after a few months you notice that lobster isn't as as fresh as it used to be... it's cutting corners. Maybe not buying lobster as often etc.. then they charge you full fuckin price for that old lobster like it's fresh. That's where the world is heading now, this kind of sketchy BS is everywhere. Business is all about who you can take advantage of. There is very little love and care put into things any more.

This is exactly what the UFC is suffering from and will forever continue to be. It's not changing any time soon unless they decide to sell again.

The last two cards were really fucking great, and this is the time to make this thread? Also remember that last London card? Shit was great and brought a lot of great ambience with it.

I have lost interest in MMA years ago like 3-5 years ago perhaps even longer then that.. Around the time Jon Jones got a DUI and got into legal troubles forcing him out of that Rumble fight.. It was probably back in 2015 and my interest returned briefly all tho short stint this time in 2017 and it was due to both Jones and GSP returning and reclaiming their titles but once 2017 went.. I lost completely interest until ofcourse Khamzat Chimaev appeared out of nowhwere.

I think Khamzat Chimaev can revive MMA but post-Chimaev I will be officially done with MMA

The irony that these threads pop up on a mma forum is hilarious. Nobody that can do anything about the state of mma for you. Is going to read it here and do anything about it. Maybe some more lack of interest will have you guys finally log off so the rest of us can watch it and have a stimulating conversation.

Dana went quantity over quality, as evidenced by their ESPN deals that prioritize volume.

It's a watered down, stale, rigid format that generally isn't generating new fans. It could be 4x better and more profitable than what it is now but egos are standing in the way.

to me, MMA gives me the same dopamine hit that attitude era gave me back when i was a teenager. cant even say why, but ive grown to really enjoy the fight nights over the past few years and this year has had some serious bangers. I think it the same idea a previous poster said earlier, looking for the next uncut gem, but also enjoying some bangers in the process.

If you don't think the fights last weekend were entertaining and inexpensive, I don't know what to to say. Who the hell cares about big names? I like great fights. Most of the big names are just trying to protect their place in line (boring).

Examples:
JoaquinBuckley vs AlbertDuraev Oh boy!
Tim means vs Holland Fun fight. Who would have thought Holland would submit his opponent?
Calvin Kattar vs Josh emmit Very good fight.
DamirIsmagulov vs Guram Kutateladze OMG! What an amazing scrap!!!
Gregory Rodrigues vs Julian Marquez Great fight.
And the list goes on.

C'mon man.

Agreed last card was full of great fights and finishes.

Wholeheartedly understand where you're coming from.

I've been a fan since 2005, and the weightclasses that used to be the biggest attractions have been snoozefests.

Heavyweight - Practically irrelevant now.
LHW - For 10 years it was ruled by Jones or Jones would come back and beat the champ.
MW - Izzy has been surprisingly inconsistent.
WW -Since GSP left the division has been struggling.
LW - No complaints here, this division has been the most exciting.
145 - Pretty exciting, though no one cares about it when its not a title fight, or title eliminator.
135 - The division of six champions, but surprisingly has little buzz behind it.
125 - The division with two fighters that have fought three times in a row, and might need to fight three more times for anyone to care.

Strangely enough, since the UFC merged with the WEC the lower weightclasses have become the more exciting classes.
Do you remember 2010 and earlier and LW was jokingly called midgets and little guys? If you had have made a post in 2010 that the two biggest stars of the decade would be a featherweight and a woman they’d have laughed at you and mods would have banned you

I've been on Sherdog ever since Randy Couture left the UFC to get a fight with some Russian guy named... 'Fedor?' o_O

So yeah, I remember back when 155ers were the runts of the sport.

fixed schedule culminating in a "champion", and then resetting and doing it again isn't a season. got it.

Champions are not champions when they defend their belt, so they're "just another competitor" when they fight already.
lol. nice try. you're arguing that in a tournament, a "belt" has any meaning?

Boxing has meritocratic, results-based pathways to titles; you're wrong again.
it's such a clear merit based system that each sanctioning body has wildly different rankings (of course, also dependent on which ones you pay to rank you).

what was the "merit" based system that got kell brook a title shot at WW against crawford when his last 3 fights were at light mw, hadn't won a fight at ww in 4.5 years, and wasn't ranked in the division? and of course, that's not a unique situation.

And yeah, the UFC's policy of locker room payments & secret individual contracts has absolutely zero to do with keeping costs down

you said they didn't have tournaments to keep payouts down. lol.

lol. tournaments or bust!

(does pfl have seasons?)
