pre ATT lawler perhaps
Robbie is very good at rolling with and blacking punches. The majority of Hendricks' punches were partially blocked by Lawler. They still do damage of course but he doesn't get hit cleanly very often.First of all, I don't think he deserved the win this time. Second of all, I also think that Rory will beat him in a rematch.
I'm not saying that he sucks, because he does not, but at the same time he's not going to keep that belt for long.
His style can be described as, "punch me so I can punch you harder", which is not a very smart plan in the long run.
Because that's what MMA is all about, records and numbersRobbie is the worst UFC champ record wise in a while. Atleast Johny had the win/lose record to look comparable to all the other champs who had 2 or less losses. Now you are trying to tell me the WW champ has lost 10 times already? Thats elite? Please, Johny Hendricks rounds 2-3-4 and 48-47, robbery of decade.
Maybe its because he's just better suited to WW? Not every fighter can be like Machida or Frankie and be top 10 in two weight classes.I'm sure he COULD beat Rory, especially since he already did lol. Lawler dominating WW like he has just shows how weak WW really was. Lawler wasn't even a top 10 MW (or even close to it) and now he is beating all of the top guys. GSP might be a hard match up for him if GSP isn't washed up because he would just be holding him down all night.
Should've never been one, clear 29-28 for Lawler. If you ask me it should've been a 29-27 given that ass whooping he put on Rory in the 3rd.He holds the belt now, which means more or less that he deserves it. I'm not saying that he isn't elite or something, but i consider his win over Hendricks controversial. I thought he might have won the 1st fight with Hendricks, but overall he was in a two close decisions where at the end you don't have the feeling like he's undoubtedly the better fighter. Like what will happen if they have a rubber match with Hendricks and Hendricks manage to outpoint him? I find it very hard to be hyped for such a champion. I'm not a fan of finishes, and I like GSP, but Robbie doesn't come even remotely close to win a dominant (gspesque) decision. His win over Rory was also a split decision.
I'm definitely not hyped enough to believe that he will keep the belt for long (and I know that the division is stacked).
That's a good way of putting it. I don't think anyone thought Robbie was going to win the belt aside from Robbie himself and his team. I'm so glad he did though.Only two names have been said to be the ones to dethrone GSP and that is Rory McDonald and Johnny Hendricks. Robbie Lawler has beat both. The hype is real and I love Robbie Lawler being champ. He'll be a good one, always ready to fight, his fighting style is aggressive, and loves to finish people. Exciting championship fights at 170 in the future.
Nice bump. would have been better if the TS wasnt banned.
This is fucking gold.
I laughed so hard when I read that, even before the Rory-Lawler fight.
Ban this Man
robbie lawler has a lot of power in a lot of different strikes, however he doesn't have the skill to land them full force on a prodigy like Rory. Rory by whatever he wants.

Just listened to the last minutes of Robbie Lawler's interview with Gross Point Blank(They said they would re air it on twitter). In closing Robbie said with the amount of fights and training he had this year was mentally and physically taxing which didn't show his best at the end. He also said that he has a lot more to show in what he's capable of and wants to prove that...
Glad Robbie has the desire to do more and show more. War Ruthless...
Man definitely deserves a break 3 of his 4 fights this year were tough 5 rounders and the camps for them we more than likely just as grueling so a rest is in order to rejuvenate
