LOL @ the Robbie Lawler hype

Robbie Lawler's hype is not only real, but it is kinda scary for everyone at 170 including GSP if he comes back. Lawler has wanted to be a champion his whole career, and since he was a late bloomer, it could be bad for a lot of contenders at 170 for awhile with Lawler at the head of things. If a guy is going to keep motivated throughout his career to pull out gold towards the "end" of his career then expect him to have the motivation to stay at the top as long as his body allows.

Only two names have been said to be the ones to dethrone GSP and that is Rory McDonald and Johnny Hendricks. Robbie Lawler has beat both. The hype is real and I love Robbie Lawler being champ. He'll be a good one, always ready to fight, his fighting style is aggressive, and loves to finish people. Exciting championship fights at 170 in the future.

His style can be described as, "punch me so I can punch you harder", which is not a very smart plan in the long run.

Robbie is very good at rolling with and blacking punches. The majority of Hendricks' punches were partially blocked by Lawler. They still do damage of course but he doesn't get hit cleanly very often.

Also while the fight was close he did end strong and got the closest to finishing the fight.

He may not be champ for long but he's past the point of being hype. Hype doesn't get that belt around your waist.

Maybe its because he's just better suited to WW? Not every fighter can be like Machida or Frankie and be top 10 in two weight classes.

Look at Grant. He was so-so at WW and then he dropped down to LW and worked his way into the top 5.

Then he got abducted by aliens or went 20,000 leagues under the sea or something.

I'm definitely not hyped enough to believe that he will keep the belt for long (and I know that the division is stacked).

Should've never been one, clear 29-28 for Lawler. If you ask me it should've been a 29-27 given that ass whooping he put on Rory in the 3rd.

That's a good way of putting it. I don't think anyone thought Robbie was going to win the belt aside from Robbie himself and his team. I'm so glad he did though.
 
Anderson Silva got better once he got the UFC strap at the age of 32.

Robbie Lawler is now 32 with the belt and is evolving...
 
I was like the TS, even leading up to both of the Hendricks fights.

His career resurgence is easily #1 all time.
 
Just listened to the last minutes of Robbie Lawler's interview with Gross Point Blank(They said they would re air it on twitter). In closing Robbie said with the amount of fights and training he had this year was mentally and physically taxing which didn't show his best at the end. He also said that he has a lot more to show in what he's capable of and wants to prove that...

Glad Robbie has the desire to do more and show more. War Ruthless...

So you're basically saying that Lawler and Hendricks are equal fighters. I agree with that.

The former champ (Hendricks) lost a narrow/controversial decision to a guy (Lawler) who is on the same level (but has different tools).

Now that GSP and his rule are over, the boys are fighting it out.

Lawler is the champ, and even if he loses his first defense, nobody can ever take away from him that he won the prize of all prizes. UFC gold; it doesn't get any better than that.

And it's totally sweet that after a long career where it seemed like he wasn't meeting expectations, he turned the corner and finally made it to the top.

Man definitely deserves a break 3 of his 4 fights this year were tough 5 rounders and the camps for them we more than likely just as grueling so a rest is in order to rejuvenate
 
In shape and motivated GSP would put Robbie on his ass all night.

GSP hasn't been the same since his injury, and not because of his injury.

He just doesn't have the same motivation as he used to.
