Little Man>Big Man Thoughts

So you're not a fan of big stars or guys who draw money?

Is that somehow a controversial position now? Cena is a draw and a lot of people hate him. Not every individual fan is super concerned with who is and isn't a draw. You see the same thing in the heavies with peoole saying you have to like Conor because he's a draw. So? I'm not their accountant, you don't have to like something because it's popular with the mainstream.

But purposely denying their popularity based on personal preference is what's doesn't compute.

"Well, it's popular, but I don't like it". Is an easy stance.

"I dot give a fuck if its popular, I don't like it" is the controversial position, mainly because its very elitist in its phrasing.

I don't believe this.

I did not mention your fandom.

I mentioned my fandom in my post. Hence it relating to my opinion. What in the world are you on about? You're making this incredibly circular.

Not really. Saying you don't care for something even if the majority do isn't elitist. People have this weird belief that fans need to think in the best interest of the brand. "Well so and so is over and that's good for business, so you have to like them". No, no I don't. I also don't have to care at all about the financial aspect of something I follow as a fan. You see this mentality in the Heavies too and I don't understand it there either. Mma isn't going anywhere, wrestling isn't either, we don't have to like everything.

Love Kalisto, love Rey, I enjoy the small guys

Not liking something the majority of people do isn't the problem, pretending that the thing you enjoy is better is IMO. Not saying that's what you stated, just using that to paint a picture of why most people would consider that elitist.

Problem is most big guys lack a personality snd charisma, if they can do just a little better than "no sell monster that growls" .

Just amazing how much presence Hogan had, I mean he even took his time in a squash, most monster guys would have ended that macth in 30 seconds.

I still think medium size like Austin, Rock, DDP, Flair is where its at.

I don't understand why Hogan was as popular as he was. What made HIM the guy that took the entire industry to the next level?

Could a Vanilla Midget bodyslam Andre The Giant in front of 93,000 screaming Hulkamaniacs?

Yeah, but Hogan wasn't the only guy who could have physically done that. I guess I don't understand what quality made him the guy with 93 000 screaming _______amaniacs.

Charisma. An incredible amount of charisma.

Wow! Here's someone I haven't seen posting in a long time. Welcome back.

And, yeah, he must have mounds of charisma, but I just don't see him as being that different from other wrestlers that were around. It's always baffled me.

Thanks bud. I've been around here and there but yeah, not as much as before. Having grown up in the Hulkamania era there was just something special the guy had. Same special charisma Macho Man had, The Rock and Austin had it, HBK, Flair, all the greats really.

Hogan definitely had a good look and charisma back then. I think the initial flair about the inaugural Wrestlemania was regarded around Mr. T of all people (him and Piper did segments on MTV which drew a massive rating). Anyway, Mr. T was big in reeling some people in, and then Hulk Hogan (and how over the top charismatic he was) was the lasting impression of it. He was popular before that time but definitely got bigger after that.

Because Hogan appealed to children, all of whom remembered their love for him as they grew up and cheered for the nostalgia after he came out.

That and considering during Hogans early reign in the WWF was also the same time around the advent of cable - so he was the first on the gigantic nationwide platform, with nationwide exposure that was different from the other territories at the time (relatively speaking, because NWA, WCCW, Mid South etc were still large at the time).

Even though there was some push back of the WWF product (cartoonish, etc) I think the national platform (along with McMahon's vision) just engulfed everyone else and therefore WWF was just seen by way more eyeballs then the rest, and the territories just couldnt match the WWF's exposure.

Definitely a few direct, and indirect reasons and variables for Hogans big time success. I wouldnt just point out to one thing making Hogan an absolute success, because there was a multitude of things that it happen from his character standpoint, to the wrestling industry at that time, etc.... or at least thats what my opinion on the matter is.

I'm not saying Daniel Bryan could hang in a fight with Brock Lesnar but I think they could have some great matches.

I'm not sure about this one. Daniel Bryan is pretty beat up now.
