List of great fighters who fought out of parallell stance instead of orthodox/southpaw

I thought he clearly won the first, the second one was pretty close, coulda gone to holmes. Holmes ran off at the mouth about judges and they held it against him in the fight. No one liked holmes in those days, including me. Great heavyweight champ, probably top 3.

Top 3 but lost to someone who isn't a real hw. Mkay

mkay, yes. It's styles, and spinks is one of the great lhw ever. Holmes had been slipping for at least 2 years by that point and barely beat Carl Williams in the fight before Spinks.

What bothered Holmes about Spinks style?

listen to his interviews, but Spinks was the quintessential awkward fighter, holmes said he'd move left when he was supposed to move right and so on. Quawi said hilariously about spinks, "I never saw anyone run away sideways", that was spinks, just a very awkward fighter. But.., against Tyson, he was fighting a guy not playing his game, he was gonna throw with bad intentions no matter what spinks did. the best strategy against those guys who wanna be cute and tricky is just to shoot through the bullshit, don't fall for the bullshit. Holmes got caught up in trying to figure out the style and he lost. As I said though, holmes hadn't been impressive for a couple years by that point, he was getting older and bored with the sport. Who would know that after his "decline" he'd still have another decade and a half to fight.

I will say this, Mike Tyson is more overrated than Bruce Lee. But his very best fight was against Larry Holmes. And he belonged to the big boys there.

Larry Holmes was a far cry from his best there but Tyson looked very sharp and could probably have won anyway.

Literally the first thing you are taught when you learn to box is ‘keep your hands up’ and ‘don’t stand square’. You see fighters getting dropped regularly in between switching stances ir when they go square. I will agree that you can probably generate more power throwing hooks, but you’d most certainly lose power to your backhand straight and jab. I’d argue that you’d also lose power in your uppercuts

Is your main objection that one is more susceptible to Body shots? Because the guard is Up anyway
