I think you shouldn’t be able to fight for a title more than twice in a given weight class. If you don’t get the job done then you change divisions or fuck off to another organization. Fighters getting 3 cracks at a title is BS.

Do you guys agree?

Depends on how long it takes. If they're spaced out over like a decade or 2 are against the same champ who then loses to someone else, a 3rd might be acceptable. Lol, those are some high stakes for your 2nd TS if you get kicked out of the org or the division for losing.

I'm not a fan of constant rematches but if someone keeps winning enough they should have unlimited crack at the belt in my book. If you are good enough to wipe out the whole division and get 3 wins against top contenders i think you deserve the third chance lol. In other sports you have unlimited tries basically and here you lose once and sometime there are already issues getting another crack. But yeah, it shouldn't be instant. Every new attempt should cost you more wins in between the shots.

on the other hand, they could implement a system similar to a sub store, where you fail at three title shots and it grants you a fourth one for free. sort of a regular customer bonus. they could even give out punch cards

As long as its not title shot/rematch one after another, but thats the issue with the MMA model, #1 guy fights for the title, loses, fights #4, wins, then what? Another title shot makes sense, right? thats too soon and its not even an instant rematch, they have very limited options at the top.

I didn’t like the way they did Max, they should have pushed up to LW after the second loss to Volk. Without a doubt absolutely questionably after the third fight. Max was basically a contendership level gate keeper, he wasted years of his prime, besides the 30+ rounds of wear, that he could have easily done that at LW, essentially when Olivera was Champ.

Jiri is in the same position now, with the exception that he was finished in both fights against Periera.

Normal thread name what's happening? On topic, what about other sports they try hard and some teams are still best losers with 2nd place

Idk, I'd have been hyped if Arlovski had made it back to a title shot almost 20 years after he was champ and had his battles with Tim

That's ridiculous. If you can make your way back up the ladder you deserve the shot.
Thats the thing, a top 5 guy that loses to the champ, specially in a somewhat competitive fight doesnt get sent back much, beats another top guy, he is right there again...

Hard limits, no. Instead, require them to get an actual win streak before challenging again. 3 Minimum. One of the problems with the structure now is that often the former champ gets moved to a high rank like #1 after losing the title. Now they can sit and say "I'm ranked number one! Give me my title shot!!". They should have to fight multiple fighters in the top 10 to be eligible again. One as a return fight, second to solidify their spot in the current landscape, and third as a number one contender match for example.

For as much as the UFC loves trying to put a narrative and story on everything I don't know why they continue to insist on sterile rematch and sterile rematch. I'm infinitely more entertained by watching a former champion prove they are worthy by getting multiple wins than to claim mulligan every time they lose a title fight. This will help make log jams less of a problem, provide better entertainment, show that a former champion is good at beating everybody and not specializing against the same fighter 3 times in a row, and not stagnate their careers. Doing trilogy matches effectively kills any forward momentum of the losing fighter because they aren't given time to grow and nobody wants to see the same rematch happen for years at a time.

I don’t know. I feel the UFC should be even more cut throat with title shots. Also, dudes that rank squat and try to wiggle their way to undeserved title shots should be given an ultimatum: fight or get cut.

No I don't think so
