Lightweight division is actually pretty poor

WBW is the most stacked division which makes Ronda so much more impressive. Look at her last fight... She destroyed a straight up killer in Bethe. Bethe was an undefeated monster, she DESTROYED top contenders like Shayna and Duke, Bethe has legit one punch knock out power in both of her hands and has an extremely underrated ground game. If you were going to build a contender to beat Ronda you would come up with Bethe. Yet, Ronda defeated her biggest challenge yet like it was nothing. It surprising that people still doubt that she could beat male fighters, TJ would have no answers to her world class boxing and would get slaughtered on the ground.

Yeah, but Ronda's a once in a lifetime human. Edmond says she drops HW world boxing champs with body shots all the time. She could beat both Klitschkos at the same time but just doesn't feel like it.

LW is the deepest, most talented division and has been for a long time.
A new hierarchy has emerged recently, but oh boy, even the guys who aren't members of the elite LW club are still better than their counterparts in other weight classes.
A LW fighter ranked between 20-40 is far better than the correspondingly ranked guys in other weight classes.

Benson never said hes moving to 170. In fact he said he wants a rematch with dos anjos more than anything.

A lot of great fighters switched divisions (Edgar, Benson etc.), but it's still stacked.

There are so many gatekeepers BECAUSE it is such a stacked division. Everyone is really good and the slightest difference in skill makes the difference betweeen a champ and a gatekeeper at LW.
It is the deepest division in MMA

You sound silly! You make it sound as if Benson Henderson and Frankie Edgar should return back to the LW division.

It's seen better days.

What hurts it the most in my opinion is that three of the top lw's are out and will continue to be out for a while (rad, pettis, and nurmagomedov).

all of mma is shallow and spread thin. in years to come as the sport grows I hope to see multiple promotions with depth in each of their own divisions.

there is always 3-5 top top guys in each promotions division, a few talented guys and a bunch of gatekeepers and bottom feeders who cant even quit their job.

the sport is too young, give it time.

this is an issue of age (of the sport), not talent or lack there of.

1. RDA
2. Pettis
3. Khabib
4. Cerrone
5. Benson
6. Gil
7. Alvarez
8. Fergueson
9. Barboza
10. Felder
11. Lauzon
12. Diaz
13. Johnson
14. Delirush
15. Masvidal
16. Miller
17. Duffy
18. Green

Not in order but stacked to me.

And how many of those guys have a real shot at the title

people talk about how its such a stacked division but in reality, most guys are gatekeepers and wont ever get to the title?

Lets see, who are the top guys right now in contention that you could make an argument that they could run for title or is good enough to?

- Rafael dos Anjso (The champ)

- Khabib Nurmagomedov (easily the best fighter in the division & should be champ, but always sidelined due to injury)

- Donald Cerrone (got a lucky decision win over Benson but will get beat by any non training partner who is a strong wrestler)

- Anthony Pettis (fights once every 5 years, got destroyed in his last fight, probably wont make another run for belt again as long as RDA and Khabib are in the div)

- Tony Ferguson (solid top contender, maybe 1 or 2 fight away from title shot, but lots of questions)

- Eddie Alvarez (meh, dont think hes good enough to fight for belt)

thats pretty much the top dogs... lol the division aint stacked at all

then u got ur gatekeepers or guys who will never be at the top like Beneil Dariush, Myles Jury, Edson Barboza.. can barely think of anyone else

SHALLOW DIVISION ALERT!

Motherfucker u trollin ur ass off. Gtfo of here wit ur 4 posts. smh

And how many of those guys have a real shot at the title

That means nothing. In the HW division,2 wins and you are a contender. In the LW division,5 good wins in a row and you may still be borderline top 10. 155 is stacked exactly because it's difficult to get a shot, because the division is filled with good fighters.

Styles make fights, you cant sit here and judge who can go for the title. Lightweight Division is stacked to the gills, these arguments make no sense.

Honda is so afraid of Cyborg, everyone knows it. Shayna got destroyed by Pena, Duke ain't never gonna be a title contender, NEVER!
Bethe was never going anywhere, she had crap BJJ and thus got never went fully comfortable in her striking similar like Werdum vs Overeem. Miesha would have won vs Honda but she went full retard like YOU going for the DL-takedown when she was winning the standup!

SHALLOW DIVISION ALERT!

Why do you say gatekeeper like it's something bad?

Fight the worst UFC LW right now and tell me how bad they are.

Retarded. It's strong throughout the top 25 in the UFC (probably more), and a strong division in several other orgs. That's a good deciding factor on depth imo.
