Except, it is by definition an investment.

The jobs are both the government jobs of the people actually building the equipment. As well as the jobs sustained and created by the private companies which provide services or materials. Of course there is a limited time in which this investment will provide return, in the case of my city, we're hooked up for at least a decade.

A wall doesn't create jobs. Investment in infrastructure, education, safety net programs create jobs. This wall burns through tax money and nothing more economic comes from it. Similarly, military manufacturing doesn't create jobs. Unnecessary things which don't add to our economic engine are ultimately job killers.

If we spent 1 billion dollars to build the world's biggest dirt pile, what do we have when it completed? 1 billion in debt and a worthless pile of dirt.

It seems to me that you are saying someone "lives in a liberal fantasy safe space" when they suggested that job creation is better served by investments in infrastructure and education, to which you retorted about the military in your town.

Although it's mostly symbolism, a wall makes sense in certain spots. Obviously they'd have to have more than just a wall for it to be truly effective though.

They already have fencing in those certain spots that you mention.
