Lewis = Glass canon?

Rosier's striking was crude & basic but he was strong & extremely tough & had an iron jaw. He was a guy who had a very strong will & desire to win. His opponent Frasier said he had in asthma attack during that fight & that's we he got fatigued & then beat up.
I've always thought Rosier was kind of the original Roy Nelson, but much taller. I read an interview with him before he passed away. He said he didn't take later UFC fights seriously. He showed up drunk to one and ate a whole pizza before another. That's too bad. They also matched up against grapplers after UFC 1. He could've had some fun striking wars with Harold Howard, Keith Hackney, Tank Abbott, Varelens, etc. with better matchmaking.

Always been a fan of Lewis, he has given us some big KOs over the years, but his career has always been like this, one fight he shows up looking awful and totally flat and lethargic, and then the next fight he comes out and lays the guy out cold brutally. Won't be surprised if he wins his next fight by brutal KO, thats the way its always been with him

Can’t believe the Volkov KO was 8 years ago. I think that’s Black Beasts best performance

OMG 8 years ago, that is madness, it doesn't feel that long ago to me. The time is flying by so fast these days. I'd say it was 4-5 years ago, 8 years is unreal. Where is the time going? lol I know I am becoming a old fogey now but yeah the time seems to be on rapid speed.

😂 😂 we'll probably be on 2029 when I see your reply to this post haha.

People don't realize how fucking terrifying Sapp was in the first few years of his career.

He just stopped caring about winning and it all went downhill from there.

It was probably the broke orbital from crocop. Part of me doesn't blame him.
the broken orbital makes for a good story, but I don't buy it considering he still was making an effort for years afterward. 1769571526965.png

Idk what you’re talking about Lewis is a technician that out cardio’s his foe

I was there and I remember, but if we're being honest Bob Sapp always sucked.

Massive lack of coordination and basic motor skills, stiff as a board, terrible cardio, and no heart. He got popular real quick in Japan because of his size, showmanship, and ability to crush overmatched and vastly oversized Japanese cans, then followed it up with an entertaining loss to Big Nog (a lot of fighters back in the day were able to look good against him early, before succumbing), then managed to stop Hoost twice... AHHHHHHH!!!! Those two fights with Hoost are probably the most frustrating kickboxing fights I've ever seen in terms of the better man managing to lose but for those who haven't seen them here they are:

One loss via cut after a bunch of illegal shots when he was down and after the bell and an early stoppage in the other. And look how bad Sapp looks doing it! Still, he holds two dubs over one of the greatest kickboxers of all-time while simultaneously being terrible at fighting. You're also right, when he faced a legit kickboxer in his prime with fire in his belly and hate in his heart we finally got to see what Sapp was made of.

And it never really got better from there.

Sorry, but the Bob Sapp period still irks me to this day.

yeah, idk why people try to make it seem like bob sapp was ever good. if he was half as good as people say, he wouldnt have lost so easily so early in his career to so many people.

he beat hoost which is great, though hoost was pas his prime and just didnt match up well. in MMA, bob sapp was never anything special. didn't beat a single good opponent even during his "prime".

his claim to fame in MMA s having a great fight with nogueira which he still lost. other than that he was a meme from nearly day 1.

Good call!
Kinda surprised me seeing he actually had a solid go after.
It was sloppy as shit but he certainly showed heart against kimo.

P.S.
I forgot about the Fujita fight and how brutal it was.

Sapphire is a perfect example that size DOES matter... a LOT. but enough skill can overcome that.

The hoost wins have driven me insane for well over two decades.

...fucking twice.... like how....

Shopworn chin that was never very good to begin with, a sloppy brawler the size of a truck who will hit you when you're on the ground, a Japanese culture that loves violence but DETESTS the sight of blood, and an early stoppage was what was required, as it turns out.

I hate those two losses more than pretty much anything else in combat sports.

i thought him being a glass cannon was like common knowledge? he's been stopped a good number of times and by guys who aren't even good strikers.

Derrick Lewis is the new Bob Sapp.

He shows up for a paycheck.

Gets hit, quits.
Right! I don’t think I could even think of a more Lewis-esque performance than the last one. Like even imagine.

Black beast looks intimidating. He starts slow and gauges the distance. You know he’ll throw some heavy bombs as soon as he finds the opportunity… He always throws that lead leg kinda jumping head kick that he’s never had any success with, but is kinda impressive for a man his size. So he throws a couple of those… Then swangs and bangs air for a round or so… Slips like a grand ma and can’t get up, so he gives up. Just lays there until the ref waves it off.

Man… Just hang ’em up

<{Joewithit}>

He’s gotta fight out that big contract to get that boxing paycheck, but go down soft enough to leave enough chin on the table for the sweet science

There was something wrong with that fight. Lewis didnt even fight realky. Threw some flashy kicks , didn't really throw hands, went down from next to nothing. Weird an dissapointing .

Sapp admitted to taking dives in his Helwani interview.

I think with Lewis from day one he's had both physical and mental issues. That last fight "should" be giving him his pink slip and the guy can retire with out further embarrassing himself.

Lewis's problem is his conditioning, he just goes in there as a chubby big boy and tries to rely on his power. He does not even seem like he trains anymore. He could have been a real force if he took this more seriously earlier on and stayed in shape. He has natural power so slimming down most likely would not have reduced that power by much and he would be able to apply more pressure and have better stamina in fights and still be ko'ing fools.

Nah he just threw the fight.
Lol at working with the fbi on fixed fights and put on THAT performance...

Waldo has been on fire. It's hard for me to accept he's a top HW, but he's doing what top HWs do. He's 8-1 in his last 9 fights. Crazy how he's won 3 by KO in a row while Pavlovich has sat out since they last fought.

Lewis also has only been fighting once a year, since doing 3 fights in 2023. Just being that inactive keeps you off guard. He's taken some punishment before, but your chin reaches its limits after being cracked. He does better as a gatekeeper now, but sometimes does too good of a job people think he's ready for the top HWs again. It's been his usual cycle.
