Let's talk prescription drugs

That's the game, to hold society back from using their minds, they don't want people who can think ...so they offer up a surplus of drugs, they promote and advertise Alcohol 24/7 on Tv, Radio, Movies, the internet ...every where you look you are constantly being bombarded with ads to take drugs and use alcohol.

It's the best way to keep a society from coming together and using their minds for a greater cause.

Every aspect of the Western World has been corrupted by greed and the pursuit for that dolla dolla bill Yo!

We look no further then the disgusting case of Dr. Farid Fata - the Dr. who would dignosis patients with cancer who did not have cancer all to milk the patient of their money along with their health care provider.

Off topic, but this is why you need to try and admit and license med students who are high character people. Talking about that girl in residency that assaulted the Uber driver and this dude cheating his patients. Because these people are entrusted with lives.

Feels like everyone I grew up with were on bi-polar medication or some shenanigans like that. Didn't know it at the time, but the information came out more and more.

Didn't know that so many people needed to take mind altering drugs to feel normal. I don't really understand why people want to feel normal. I can't stand the genericness of what is normal.

I am not on anything. I even try to avoid stuff like your usual tylenol or ibuprofen. only if I have a headache so strong I cant think straight.

Giving a pill to dampen the symptoms is easier than treating the problem at its source

Some doctors are to blame, but I think the bigger issue is that many people in today's society just want that instant gratification even when it comes to lifelong mental health problems.

Want to research something crazier . To make a pill an actual pill form, they use these binders and fillers that are harmful...plastics a maybe some titanium dioxide. . Don't remember but I read a article years ago and the ingredients before the chemicals in the pill are bad

Consider this insanity. 80% of the world's supply of pain killers is taken by Americans.

Americans consume 80 percent of the world's painkillers, which translates into more than 110 tons of addictive opiates every year, the BBC reports. The finding comes from congressional testimony by the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.

On the upside we produce almost half the worlds legal opium. On behalf of the Australian economy thank you!

I think the patient facing marketing is the problem.

1. Use vague question based ads
2. Get people to answer yes
3. Those people ask doc for drugs
4. Docs give drugs

The Doctors also face a whole lot of marketing, some of which is extremely questionable.
Starting with meals and promotional gifts from pharmaceutical company reps, through to paid "conferences" overseas in luxury resorts.
They reps even hand out samples of their prescription meds. I always used to get my Mobic from a friend who worked as a pharmaceuticals rep.

Weird that neither party has much to say about the problem.....

I self medicate with only the dankest of memes.

Some people really like their pharmaceuticals. I've never gotten the appeal.

I can totally believe them numbers. I also believe the reason drugs are being used at such an alarming rate is our diet. You are a product of the food you swallow down your throat. People eat less nutritious processed shit than ever before. Humans are becoming weak.

Makes you wonder if the problem is doctor's over-prescribing or modern society driving people past their ability to naturally cope.

It's the food and lifestyle choices people make. There's a reason they're visiting the doctor in the first place.

I agree but it's largely a reflection of the direction that modern society has pushed people. If you're obligated to be at work from sun up to sun down then you're open to a whole rack of health issues that arise from lack of sunshine, repetitive physical tasks, insufficient sleep, compromised posture from sitting all day, unnaturally high levels of stress, etc. The amount of time available to cook 3 solid meals (or even 2 large meals) has decreased, regardless of the changing desire to do so.

I was curious if this is something that doctors are over-prescribing to fix or if it's such a problem that, absent a significant change in lifestyle, prescription meds are the only way to maintain.

As a loose parallel, take the injuries football players are dealing with post-retirement. Even if doctors cut back the medicating to the bare minimum, those guys would still be wrecks in their 50's because the lifestyle requires them to destroy themselves physically.

Similarly, does our current culture require us to destroy ourselves just to tread water? It's easy enough to say that people should change their lifestyle and eating habits but where does that leave them in society. If you're a paper pushing office dweller - how do you keep your job and change your lifestyle to one that is significantly more healthy (by which I mean more than buying better groceries and eating better)

Interesting points raised. Time will tell.

Not enough real hardships to keep things in perspective? :D

I don't believe people in general lack the time or money to eat better than they do. Junk food isn't free and eating better doesn't require going organic at the Whole Foods.

the only drugs i take are over the counter Reactine

People take too many pills but let's not forget how much longer the life expectancy has gotten since "big pharma" came around. People are definitely over-prescribed but I think the good outweighs the harm.
