Food & Drink Let's talk good chocolate

I like this white chocolate that is made in Peru the best. Other chocolates can be good too though. I'm not all that picky though I'm not a fun of milk chocolate. My preference is for it to be milk free.

I do similar for the flavanol content. Look into Ghirardelli 100% Cocoa Baking Powder. Typically, the manufacturers use dutch processed/alkalized cocoa. The result is a product with significantly reduced flavanols. In general, chocolate is high in lead and cadmium. That particular Ghirardelli product scored at the top for both flavanol content and low levels of lead/cadmium (comparatively).

I always have the Ghirardelli on hand. You can get a 3lb container on Amazon for $20 which is kind of insane value compared to similar products.

I think white chocolate should be the most expensive and most pure, however, chocolate is an odd thing. The cacoa fruit is white and it tastes nothing like chocolate as we know it. The seed goes through a refinement process to make chocolate, and I'm a fan of dark myself, nobody likes that stuff, more for me.

You are correct. My understanding is that a big part of it is they've lowered the chocolate content of their chocolate.
the fact that it has milk, by its very nature, it cant have the highest chocolate content.

Interesting combination of poster and content.
Did you know that the chocolate industry was created by english confectioners like Cadbury, murrkan Hershey and Swiss Nestlé?

It's funny because one does not usually think of english chocolate but it used to be a thing.

Anyways on topic, TS, I for one tend to favour the moren cocoa intensive products, like 80%+ cocoa content, all the way to 95%.
In the day when I was having moment, let's say. I just wanted a Galaxy. Very English. As I grew up, Green and Blacks again very English. But Hershey's does indeed taste of old socks.

If we talk every day chocolate Anthon Berg is a good one.
For a treat I go for local "homemade / handmade" stuff.

See's Candy has been family favorite for decades now. It is very very good. However, we received a box of Josh Early chocolates and it may be my new favorite.

Godiva is B tier compared to the above, but I'm very interested in what my sherbros have found out there in the wasteland for good chocolates.
If I have to give chocolate as a gift—or less commonly, if I want it myself—I get it from LA Burdick. This shit is fire.

These salted caramels from Fran’s are bomb too.

The Sweet Shop. handmade candy. its fucking delicious. Their salted turtles are to die for

If you're like me and favor milk chocolate + hazelnuts over everything else, you'll love Caffarel Italian chocolates. I'm in the US, so they're practically impossible to find, but Costco had them back in 2018 or 2019 for a few months and I got to try them. The best chocolates I've ever had, and it's not even remotely close. Nowadays, I usually get Lindt milk chocolate bars with whole hazelnuts. What's funny is they offer the same chocolate bar with smaller pieces of hazelnuts, and those taste a lot worse.

Seriously though, Caramelo Koala's are great.

Gotta be dark chocolate, not crappy milk chocolate. As far as mainstream i like lidnt. There are a few of local chocolatiers that make some primo shit. I'm sure most larger cities have the same. If you haven't done it before go to a local place that makes chocolate, while you'll pay way more than store grade it's worth it at least once.
