I'll get someone else to catch it for me
what is that some kind of drum? good to eat?I currently live in Jeffersonville IN.
Coming from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, it was definitely weird changing my fishing tactics. And the fact I won’t eat what we catch out of the Ohio.
My kid
caught this yesterday at the Falls of the Ohio

This almost makes me want to try carp.
But the carp I’m used to certainly don’t look like these critters
What techniques did you use?Well, I went out and fished the Ohio river from the bank tonight. Only about an hour and I only had a 20 foot space to fish the whole time because there were over thirty people lined up and down the bank they were cat fishing with bait. As per my recent usual status, I caught nothing. Not sure I would have caught anything had 30 people not been there. The reports state that the river is on fire, but definitely not for me.
Here is a pic of the bank with tons of angler. It’s tough to see past the group next to me, but trust med there were a lot of them. It was pretty sad and pathetic to see so many anglers fighting for very limited space at the dam.
uhm...with the fish Im currently catching and eating (salt), Ill flour or panko dip (egg wash) and fry...make fish sandwhiches.....with the Cuda and trevally Ill dry age and sashimi, the dry age definitely makes them taste better.... bonefish Ill do a Chinese style steam (green onion and cilantro with hot oil bath and a little soy sauce.Do you deep fry fish?
Yep. Looks like a small drum fish. Good to eat, but like every other species, you need to know how to prepare it. Youtube is your friend.what is that some kind of drum? good to eat?

Air fryer for me. My liver is shot, so I don't/can't fry anything anymore. I'll try to find a Youtube channel my nephew sent me a while ago. A cool redneck would cut a carp into small pieces and fry them. It looked delicious. I discovered Slap Ya Mama spices because of him.uhm...with the fish Im currently catching and eating (salt), Ill flour or panko dip (egg wash) and fry...make fish sandwhiches.....with the Cuda and trevally Ill dry age and sashimi, the dry age definitely makes them taste better.... bonefish Ill do a Chinese style steam (green onion and cilantro with hot oil bath and a little soy sauce.

I haven't caught many, but they give a hell of a fight (like smallies, but get so much bigger).

It's good to know.I only eat the smaller drums. The big ones have a lot of parasites.
That's a good list.Holy cow. Two different Spinnerbaits, crank baits, jerk baits, jigs, and flipped a craw.
Up there? Where I’m at now, or the U.P.What’s the bass scene like up there? Largemouth avg size and smallie avg size?

U.P.- there’s bass, not getting any records. Had a small lake where you’d routinely catch 3lb occasional 4lb bass, but eventually you’d be realing one in and it’d get hit by giant pike. I like pike fishing more so I just started fishing them lol. Caught a 40” that had a 9-1/2” wide bite mark on its back.
Where I’m at now, haven’t really bass fished much. Work with a couple guys that fish tournaments and do pretty well.
All I can say is, you hook into a 40”+ musky, you’re in for a hell of a fight buddy!I read that there are some good smallmouth rivers and lakes. If we end up moving there, I hope I find a place with big bass, or at least comparable to where I am now. We don’t really have like around here. A few lakes/river with Muskie but I have never hooked into one and wouldn’t purposely target them.

With the pike, aside from having to deal with a lot of bones, they are actually pretty good eating. There are tricks to debone them, but I’m no good at it lol
A spinnerbait that expensive should have a twisted arm, not the standard R bend that most spinnerbaits have these days. It seems like Northland is one of the only company making spinnerbaits with twisted arms anymore, though there are probably some smaller custom bait companies still twisting them. The R bend creates such a weak point, when a spinnerbait eventually fails, it will fail at the R bend 100% of the time because that's where it flexes. Eventually that arm flexes so much the metal fails. I usually lose them long before that, but still, when you pay that sort of money for a bait they shouldn't be using the cheapest manufacturing process possible.Hit the Ohio river last night. Two guys in my usually spot, so I went down river a bit. Hooked into a monster smallie and it jumped twice and it was so big I thought it was a drum. Got it to the bank and stepped down to grab it and too much slack got in the line and it spit the hook. I was heartbroken. It could have been a new pb. The shoulders on it were massive. Wasn’t super long but super thicc. Then, I caught a small saugeye.
This is the spinnerbait I was using. It’s an evergreen and they cost $24/each. They look great in the water, but the line keeps sliding up and out of the area where you tie it on. I used some pliers to close it a bit. You would think lures that expensive would be perfect, but it has its flaws. Again, colored blades look great in the water, but the line slips and it keeps getting tangled in the split ring which is super annoying.

I don’t know if any specific knot that helps. I suppose wrapping the line around the arm twice before tying the knot would reduce the chance of it sliding.I agree. I have had issues with the line slipping before but never like this. Is there a certain knot to tie that helps or does it not even matter?
On a side note, I am listening to the odds of me fishing tonight going rapidly down as the downpour starts four hours early. I had planned to go after dinner. We got some rain last night and the water is murky but not yet muddy. Reports coming in that the river is rising and is supposed to get 3-4 feet higher by tomorrow. Grrrr
