Lets talk fishing

You ever catch n cook a carp? I usually try everything once but for whatever reason I just can’t do carp….. They look horrificly disgusting

I’ve tried lgmouth bass before, prob won’t do that again either.

Hell no! I don’t really like freshwater species to eat. Too fishy imo

I’d like to try crappie or bluegill (hear good things) but I’m also in no rush

Friend of mine caught a carp and he opened it up. Pinkish orangish flesh. I almost threw up right there on the spot.

Went into a ranch 99 supermarket once in the Bay Area….Chinese people are fond of largemouth apparently. They had an aquariums stocked to the gills w live largemouth. Tripped out

They aquaculture largemouth bass for food in China. They grow to full size pretty quick.

I see people with stringers full of small bass and they apparently eat them. Many years ago, I caught a large three eyed catfish out of the Ohio river and some guy wanted it to eat. I told him the river was fucked and he said you’re able to eat five fish out of the river. No fucking thanks

I haven't tried carp, but I will eventually. My wife and I love fish, and she wants to try every specie I catch. The problem with carp is cleaning it. They're filled with bones. You have to cut the fish in many small pieces. Some people don't bother. They grind the meat and bones, and make patties.

Even walleye? Bluegill? The taste is so subtle.

Crappie, bluegill, rockbass and sunfish are delicious. I prefer them in the fall when they're fat and thick.

I live on the Ohio and argue with people here about it all the time. They say, oh you can eat them. My reply is usually along the lines of “No, you can eat them, I’m good”

I’m probably spoiled though growing up catching fish out of Lake Superior

In general. I have never actually tried bluegill or walleye. I like trout, I guess. We used to catch, clean, and cook when I used to trout fish with my dad in the 90s, but I would rather have salt water species because I think they taste less fishy. A nice salmon with some lemon pepper or Thai spices are my jam.

Where at in Ohio? I currently live in WV about an hour away from @mjmj and grew up here. I am used to fishing in this area and the fishing is a grind and anytime I go down south, it is so much easier to catch bass. We might move to Indianapolis because my wife is getting a job offer and I will have to find new spots and probably change my fishing style to suit an entirely different environment. It’s actually something that stresses me out because I don’t know what the fishing would be like. It’s not a lock, but if she gets that job offer, she will take it. She can’t pass up a 60k raise.

Pike opens Friday. Walleye the Friday after. I'm stoked!

That’s weird that some species have seasons. There is no pike, Muskie, walleye season limitations that I know of. It’s fair game whatever you want to target. We have trout season and the only thing that is different is that if you fish in stocked areas, you have to have a trout stamp. I never get one because I don’t target, nor catch trout. At least, I haven’t since the 90s. I am strictly bass

I catch n eat barracuda bonefish and trevally all considered ‘trash fish’ by the going standard all multiples better tasting than anything I’ve ever caught in a lake or stream including rainbow….bonefish in particular is amazing

Rainbow without drowning of butter and lemon is awful sus

They try to protect the spawn and they're not very good at it.

Keeping the fish, I get. But some places, like ND outlaws fishing for smallies before a certain date based upon my favorite YouTube angler, NDYAKANGLER. Until just a couple of weeks ago, he was targeting pike and Muskie because smallie season was not yet upon us. I am just glad that I can target my fav fish all year round

Well, I went out and fished the Ohio river from the bank tonight. Only about an hour and I only had a 20 foot space to fish the whole time because there were over thirty people lined up and down the bank they were cat fishing with bait. As per my recent usual status, I caught nothing. Not sure I would have caught anything had 30 people not been there. The reports state that the river is on fire, but definitely not for me.

Here is a pic of the bank with tons of angler. It’s tough to see past the group next to me, but trust med there were a lot of them. It was pretty sad and pathetic to see so many anglers fighting for very limited space at the dam.

That is a stretch of river across from a dam that is heavily fished. I usually walk the bank and toss my lures and more often than not, I do ok there and got my pb smallie there last year. It was only 3.2 lbs, but I have a friend that has caught 4.5 lbs smallies in that stretch, but I had twenty feet of room to fish between the wall and the next angler, and then there was one every five feet for the entire half mile. I have never seen anything like that there.

I currently live in Jeffersonville IN.

Coming from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, it was definitely weird changing my fishing tactics. And the fact I won’t eat what we catch out of the Ohio.

My kid
caught this yesterday at the Falls of the Ohio

Same thing at the falls yesterday, about 30 people to our left and 20 to our right, in a 100yd stretch. As soon as we caught a fish, we had people come right over and start fishing literally 3’ either side of us standing on the same rock we were on lol… I’m not used to shit like that. City life is making me bitter lol
