Lets talk fishing

Do you use baitrunner reels?
If you are talking about a style of spinning reel like the Shimano baitrunner reels; that's what I use. I like to let the catfish run with the livebait for a few seconds before I click it into the primary drag and "set" the circle hooks. Then try and turn those pricks really fast with lots of pressure before they get into any type of structure. Really important when you're fishing from an overgrown river bank. My big Thunnus is a little overkill, but I like that I can use it for big cats, small to medium sturgeon and big saltwater species except big billfish and sharks.

I occasionally fish carp and I use cheap baitrunners. I got my biggest catfish on a 15mm pineapple-banana boilie. It wasn't a monster, but my wife and I had a blast.

Bladed jig pre spawn

I set goals every year to achieve by the end of the season. Last year, it was to use jigs and spinner baits, which I did to great success. This year, I plan to use more chatterbaits and swim baits

Cool. I got lucky that at a jobsite I was running, a supplier sent too many windows. I called, said come and take them back. He said no, our manifest says that we're good. I checked his billed vs quote and said - ok if you don't want them they're mine. Sold them the next day for a grand on Craigslist and blew it all on fishing reels, rods and tackle.

I've always wanted to try my hand at carp fishing. There's some big mirror carp at a local pond. Spooky fish, so I haven't been bothered learning the techniques. I really should though. Middle of summer can be tough for cats (100 degrees plus outside). Should concentrate on how to target them then.

Problem is, it's high mountain river rafting season then (not so much for whitewater, mostly drinking and fishing). So that usually takes up my free time in the middle of summer. Still, need to increase my skills. So should just figure it the fuck out and stop being lazy about it. A 20lb carp is no joke of a fight. Shit, an 8lb carp on light gear is dope af too!

Same. This year its big worms, jigs, big swimbaits and cranking

Jigs took some convincing. I had never even gotten a bite on one before this year. I ended up boating a lot of bass-just nothing big. Spinnerbaits won the year, though, with a pair of six pounders on a mega bass spinnerbait in orange

I love Mega Bass stuff. Jigs consistently produce and most top guys will tell ya its the go-to for big fish. But I digress... My top 5 were on a blade bait, a Strike King Rage Menace, a Zoom Trick Worm, a Z Man chattterbait, and a Chompers skirted grub

Your PB is bigger. Mine is 8lbs 7oz. Anything over 7lbs is extremely rare here in the midwest. Where did you catch your PB?

That's a toad man. Caught mine in Missouri actually. Pre spawn next to a big lay down. Ive caught 2 over 8 here. Hoping for a double digit this year. Throwing big baits.

Yes but i rarely set the baitrunner. I use 10ft-11ft rods that are really parabolic. I place them in a rod holders & just wait close by for them to bend over. Grab them right away & hold on lol I had a giant on once that I couldn’t move. It just stayed on the bottom under the boat like 40ft deep until it finally broke my line. I about cried

Wow that’s impressive! I live in Missouri. My PB actually came from illinois. I live in St. Louis so I actually do most of my fishing in central illinois.

My PB also came pre spawn. I was flipping a lay down. I love flipping a texas rig pit boss or a jig. And throwing a big paddle swimbait or a frog.

Im in St Louis too. Small world. I have about 40 bags of the Pit Boss. No shit. Walmart had them for like $3. I fish out by Troy, Wentzville and down by Farmington

Whereabouts in the city or are you in a close suburb ?

No way! The berkley pitboss is my go to. I throw mine on a 7’6” heavy flipping rod, 25lb flouro, 5/16-3/8 tungsten (pegged), 4/0 straight shank flipping hook & i add rattle to the pitboss. I usually throw Okeechobee color, sometimes june bug, black/blue or green pumpkin.

I fish all over in Missouri & Illinois, but central Illinois has so many smaller lakes that are perfect for flipping & frogging which is what i like to do. I’ve gotten to the point where i just stick to lakes that are loaded with gizzard shad because the bass are so much bigger.

They're a sleeper. I typically throw the green pumpkin green flake or black / blue. 3/0 flipping hook on fluorocarbon. Using leaders this year. Dip the flippers in chartreuse garlic scent too. All my poles and reels are Lew's except one St Croix

Breckenridge Hills. I live right by St. Charles Rock Road

Im from St Charles. Live in south St Louis now. City cop over 14 years now. City lakes actually have big bass in em but they're disgusting. I legit broke off a dozen times in one day
