Lets talk fishing

I’m going fishing off a pier to celebrate a friend’s birthday today. We only go to the pier on weekdays to avoid the crowds. Hopefully I can snag a bullred but it may be to early in the year. Probably get a couple of sheepshead of the pillars easy tho. Live shrimp and mullet for bait if they have it.
Got a 35 inch black drum and some decent sized ladyfish.

The pier was on fire lots of Drums/Sharks someone got a massive Jack. Beautiful day to fish. Not a catfish in sight.

Went out on the bay on the weekend and had some luck, we got a gummy shark, a cod and a trevally. Lovely day to be out, good times

Was throwing a small weightless Fluke Minnow while Bass fishing and got on a couple big ass blue gill, inlcuding my new PB

I took a break from fishing on the boat and took a road trip North to the Sierra Mountains (close to Yosemite) and hit up one of my favorite back country ponds out there . . . Its very quiet & peaceful. Got a variety of species too

What is your set-up? That rod is parabolic as hell

I have broken 2 zodias rods In a 1 year period of time. I think you got lucky IMHO.

Oh man, I have broken so many. I’m he wind blew the door shut and the rods all snapped. Then, I sank my kayak and lost 4 $200 combos. Then last year, we were gearing up and I put my poles in a protective tube, but they were too long and the tips were sticking out. When I shut the door, the he tips all snapped. Every pole I had was broken and I had to use the b team.

How did you break em

As sad as it is: I sure do feel better knowing that there's other guys out there breaking as many rods a year as I do. I'm rough on mine and do the majority of my fishing from the bank. Then rafts, then boats. Bank fishing breaks the most, then being in the raft. Never broken a rod fishing in a boat. Broke one this year putting the livebait getting rod in the back of the truck in the dark and the tip grabbed something and that was that. So stupid.

Rafts and the bank kill rods in a multitude of ways. Never broken my catfish gear. Never broken any saltwater gear. Always catfish support gear(livebait)/trout/panfish/bass/kokanee.

Have yet to break my salmon gear, but that's probably because I don't go out salmon fishing too often. Funnily enough, fishing for salmon from the bank is also known as "combat fishing" in these parts.

Both of them on a Hook set. Don't get me wrong I have broken plenty of the past couple of years through my own fault. But the zodias breaks were not on me lol.

Sounds like you are in Northern California.

Wife and I were at Walmart, they had a ton of rod/reels for $5. Bought a couple, now have no idea how to get started. Haven't fished since I was a kid, 50 years ago. Guess I need a license, hooks, bait........ do we still use weights and bobbers? I'm completely clueless.
