Lets talk fishing

I just got a job at an outdoor store, and I work in the fishing department.

I've never been fishing before. Any good beginner YT channels/videos I can look into?

oh man, I got you covered on this one. What part of the country do you live? For smallmouth and any fish, my favorite is ndyakangler. Dude is super chill and is the bob Ross of fishing. Catches crazy big smallmouth.

A good channel for learning how to fish is tactical bassin-guys are really good.

another one is to look up mike icconelli “Top five things to look for when bass fishing”

if you plan to fish creeks or streams-creekfishing adventures.

and just a cool dude Debo’s fishing

I only fish for bass, so if you are looking for something else, I can’t offer too much help. Get yourself a setup-I would recommend for starting out, a combo. Abu Garcia are really good. Depending on your transportation, one piece poles are better than two piece-which are easier to transport. Get something at least 6’6”-7. Get yourself some top water-I recommend berkley choppo in bone 90 and throw it at dawn and dusk. Maybe a buzzbait, and look up wacky rig and Texas rigged worms as well as ned rig.

Watch some videos and learn a bit and download Fishbrain to see good places to fish in your area. And always remember-largemouth relate to wood and trees and smallmouth like rocks that cause breaks in the current.

Hope this helps

Hey man, nice hauls!

Just went out a few days ago and caught a 6.5 lb largemouth off of a 5” senko and a weighted wacky hook. I believe it’s a 20 acre runoff pond for a big subdivision or something.

nice catch. Still working on something over five, but in my area, unless you are on a private pond, those are tough to come by

Oh I hear ya, biggins’ are hard to come by. Fortunately we know some guys who live off of a huge golf course pond that has some decent structure. It’s where I caught my pb last year of 8lbs

It’s about fifteen minutes out of the city and the bass are so much bigger and less pressured. Bite was slow tonight. Caught one within fifteen minutes and then not another bite for an hour. Then it got dark and they turned on. Caught four total, which is low for me at this creek. Fish were smaller as well, though I did land a 2.6 lb smallie.

On vacation next week. Heading to Chandos Lake in Ontario. Supposed to have good pike and bass. I'm a terrible fisherman though so I will probably get skunked on anything big. Got a boat for the week and will be doing some slow trolling and casting shorelines and docks.

sounds nice. Get yourself some berkley choppos in bone-90 and 105. Also get some buzzbaits and look up wacky rigging and ned rig. For largemouth, target docks, and downed trees and wood. For smallies, target rocks, though I am guessing it may be a deep wager lake. If thst this the case , look up some YouTube for thst lake and plan to use ned rig, tubes, and dropshot rigs. Good luck

Nice! I'll try to post in the coming month if I get back to NC and my dad and I catch anything. We fish mostly for trout and I suck. He's good though.

I got all the baits and tackles make a lot of rig set ups etc.... I watch tonnes of fishing shows. I'm actually quite well versed in fishing. I just never seem to have a lot of luck. I always get some. Just never pull them out like the pros or catch massive ones....
I still enjoy it though. Although my wife says I have to many rods and tackle. I find it relaxing regardless.
I'd like to do a fly in trip in northern Ontario and jus catch a shit tonne of walleye.

At first glance I thought they were crappie, then I looked more and I was going to ask you if they’re shell crackers. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen any.

Here in NC I only have good luck catching them when they spawn. I caught those from the last week in april through may. Had to get back to my bass fishing after that lol

They're so fun to catch. Find a good bed of them and you can catch them nearly every cast

I caught all the Pacific Salmon species today. A Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Chum, and Pink Salmon. We are targeting Kings and Silvers. Pretty rare to catch Sockeye on the gear we're using, and Chum usually run later in the season.

I used the Pink Ling Cod bait, and Brought the Chum in to smoke and give the dogs as a treat.

my bad on the misidentification. I thought they were black crappie

Ah it's all good man! They really do favor a crappie. The males especially do. They look like some kind if cross between a crappie and a hybrid bluegill to me.

Nice. What part of NC? I fished in Wilmington back in May. Caught a few and lost nine hooked fish in an hour
Sounds about right haha. We are in the western part of the state. We fish in Pisgah a lot and sometimes around Cherokee.
