Lets talk fishing

Some friends of ours bought a boat. Its a small three person aluminum fishing boat but its pretty cool. We took it out last week and caught a bunch of striped bass. Wish I had some pics but we didn't catch anything till the third day camping and by then my phone was dead. They are pretty good eating though.

Boats and kayaks really change the game! What has now become my “home lake” was mostly unfishable from shore. The accessible areas are overfished and to get to better areas, it is a treacherous hike with steep slopes and lots of downed trees. I used to wade in the water and still fell a lot. Buying a kayak has made me a much better fisherman and I usually do pretty good thanks to the boat

Thursday’s morning haul. Three
On the day, lost two on buzzbaits. I think the second one was a Muskie because it was a huge splash and the line got cut-15 lb braid. There are mixed reports of Muskie are in that lake, but it is fed by a river. Caught my three bass on a wacky rigged KVD fat baby finesse worm in bold blue hill color. The first one was just under three and the other was just over two

Friday’s morning haul. Got up at 0430 and was fishing at 0520 second cast got my first smallie-little over a pound. Using top water berkley choppo in bone, I got a few blowups, but no fish. This happened the other night where the fish would not commit to a full on attack and would swipe at the lure, missing getting hooked. So i had a back up plan. I have tried to get out of the habit of carrying four rods with me while I walk the creek and have stuck to one pole The last week, but today I took a second one with a wacky rigged KVD worm(see above for color). Caught one while it was still dark and then when to the next spot. Had a few blowups, but the bass wouldn’t commit to the top water-maybe they have seen it too many times? So i tossed the worm in and blam-caught the biggest of the day at 2 1/2 lbs and 18 inches. Caught two they were close to two pounds? Two around 1.51 and two dinks and one at 1 lbs-total 8.

A few good ones from this year. Not the best bass fishery here but I make the best of it

Hit my creek before a storm. Caught two instantly. Then the storm hit and they turned completely off for about an hour after the storm. Then before it got dark, they turned on again. Caught four, two were decent.

Thanks man! I’m in New Jersey and have been fishing all over the state the last few years

Nice. I used to hit the Potomac and we would fish the PA and NJ side for nice smallies and occasional walleye or stripper.

I am in WV. You have to really know some spots to get fish that big. I am working on it.

Caught four smallies tonight on my creek. Wanted to throw different lures, caught my first bass on a nikko helgramite, which I thought I would kill the fish with, but this was my first one. Then switched to a buzzbait and caught a 1 lb 15 oz smallie-same one I caught last week in the same spot.

then switched to my berkley choppo 105(usually use a 90) in black with aftermarket blue tiger stripes via marker with the hopes of drawing out a bigger fish. Saw a smallie smashing minnows and tossed it in and she smashed it. 2 lbs 5 oz 17 inches. Unfortunately, she lost an eye when she flipped on a rock: I felt damn awful about that but she swam away and they are tough. Will probably catch her again at some point to check up on her.

Got up at 4 am to go kayak fishing. I got one within a few minutes 2.6lbs on a buzzbait. Lost two, then switched areas. Caught a few more two pounders and then caught a 3 lb 10 oz on a wacky rigged KVD worm.

Caught twelve total and lost four.

Hit my lake and my creek recently. Caught two catfish on weird lures-one on top water and one on a plastic worm. Was fishing for bass. Then, last night I caught my biggest smallie yet at 3.5 lbs and four others and a gar and cat.
