One largemouth, eighth smallies, including my new personal best at 2 lbs, 15 ounces, which is huge for the creek I fish. I know there are bigger ones in there, so I will keep hunting for them. All on a berkley choppo in bone with a few mods. I take a red permanent marker and paint the head and underside red and add feathered treble hooks. I really think it helps. The third one down that is really dark was the almost three pounder.

Had a 45 or 50lb King Salmon ripped out of my net this morning, by a 2000+lb male Stellar Sea Lion. It actually stayed on the line, and I fight it for 15 minutes while chasing it with the boat. He had it by the tail and actually lost it twice. Finally, he readjusted and was able to bite off the body, so I actually reeled in the giant head. Caught 3 more Kings all 20-25lbs, but losing that big one, that way stung.

So, if one wanted to fish for seals, a big salmon would work?

Depends on the type. This was a longnose gar. That was medium for my area. I have seen some up to five feet long, but most are 3 feet or so. Alligator gar are the big bastards and they are not around here.
I remember finding a huge dead alligator gar washed up on a barrier island in Florida and being terrified that such a thing existed.

A few more today. Caught three, lost two that were much better. Two on a choppo-one of the ones I lost got wrapped on a log and the lure for hooked on the log and I had to helplessly watch the fish shake until it got loose. I lost a real big one that jumped and then broke my line. Probably in the 4-5 pound range. Would have been a pb. Also, some awesome pics from 530 am

I caught one in Florida while fishing for peacock bass. They are nasty things. Pike and Muskie are scary af as well

Down in Texas ponds, I’ve found very few baits more successful than a wacky rigged senko. I have had more luck with 5” worms than anything else, green pumpkin during the day and jet black at night. Caught my pb of 8lbs last year and 6.5lbs this year so far off of those bad boys.

Went out again this morning. Caught two, but the second was a big one. 23 inches long and 3.5 lbs. she was old and on the skinny side, but had the head of a six pounder. I was able to put my fist in her mouth.

Nice. I can’t imagine having so many big bass where I live. I have caught a 7 pounder in a private pond, but there aren’t that many real big fish in public fishing areas.

Honestly, the majority of the fish around here average 2-3 lbs, but fight like they’re 10. The fish over 5lbs usually wait until April-May to come out and give you a chance to catch em.

Besides a nine pound trout and peacock bass, the hardest fighting fish I ever caught was a three pound largemouth I caught two weeks ago. It kept digging like crazy and peeling drag. But peacocks fight the hardest and smallmouth for their size-though the three pound smallie I caught this week did not fight very hard.

Couple of nice smallies from this year. Weather has been garbage pretty much all season.

I am excited about this thread. I am a life long angler. Recently, I purchase three of these for my father's birthday. I figured I would pass along this information to you guys!
