I used to fish after class in high school and a lot in college. Also a decent amount growing up. I recently wanted to get back into it but I'm clueless now. I couldn't even put line on my spinning reel spool properly. It looks terrible and I can't get it tight (where you put a hook through one of the eyes and tighten up so the line isn't hanging).

I also have nowhere to fish at the moment. And my germaphobia OCD has gotten extremely bad lately and I don't want to touch any of that stuff.

Did anyone else buy those shitty helicopter lures when they were younger? They were an infomercial item and they wouldn't catch a damn thing.

Is it a good Idea to start practicing fishing by catching some bass?

I think so. But the easiest results would be using a bobber with some live worms and catching some pan fish.

Depends. I would assume your going to be on a bank not in a boat if just starting. Are you planning to use bait? Or lures?

Maybe. Depends on location. In some places a worm won't sit there for 5 seconds before a bluegill grabs it.

Very true. Pan fish tear up my senkos. I use a 1/2 oz bullet weight just to get past them fast. Lol

Man, my 6 year old is obsessed with the idea of fishing. I don't think he understands that you spend half the time just picking your ass. Gonna have to take him to a place that stocks those fuckers.

If you float that worm over a drop off or some rocks you would increase those #s for sure. The issue is when you toss it where bait fish have been pressed up against a bank by the bass. That's when the pan fish will get it way faster than a bass can even see it.

Hello sherbros. Recently I have decided to take up fishing. Mostly bass. But have no issue going fo others.

Yesterday was my 1st attempt at using a drop shot rig. Interesting set up.

So far I have tried lipped crankbaits, spinners, chatter baits, soft plastics, senkos, creature baits, and so on.

I am trying to learn lure fishing. So knowing I am a complete newbie to fishing other than gojng out as a kid with my dad.

What do you guys advise for muddy water? what do you use for clear water? And what techniques do you suggest for the lures you reccomend?

I'm in northern California. The amount of fishing time I accumulated since this thread was created averaged 45 hrs a week.

Picked up great knowledge as well as bad habits that I now need to spend the spring breaking lol.

I've taken Jan and will take Feb completely off from fishing to focus on work. Come March I'm right back at it full force again.

First wave of King Salmon are a little small(15lbs) but are chrome even in low light.

I fish with hand tied flies. A skill self taught at age 10.

Hand tied flies are pretty dope. We use the Salmon roe over here to catch sturgeon. Big fuckers. Lol.
