Lets talk fishing

I just entered my first kayak bass tournament. I had to leave after three hours because my back was killing me. Conditions were absolutely shitty with it raining all day. I caught two, including this big girl at 18.5 inches and 3 lb 12 oz. I am currently in the lead with 33.75 inches and the next guy has 14 inches. IMG_0814.jpeg

They raised the water levels up like 25+ feet right as it started warming up. So there are PreSpawn & Spawn Bass coming up into the newly submerged grass to make beds and look for some hunnys....

I prefer NOT to "Bed Fish" but instead fish the edge of the Grass Line for Bass feeding . . .

I don’t know that I have the patience for bed fishing, but I can’t ever find beds on my lakes or creeks

Wiper on a Dartspin and Pike on a big chatterbait.

Going out late tonight for big striped bass and maybe bluefish if they show up. Then will probably stay up into the morning to chase pike and smallmouth

1. New personal bests in largemouth(6 lbs) and smallmouth (3lbs).
2. Continue to improve and build on my success from last year using spinnerbaits and jigs.
3. Become proficient using chatterbaits, lipless, and jerkbaits. Currently, I have only caught one fish on a chatterbait and no fish on the other two.
4. Reeastablish my Ned rig and shaky head game. I have gotten away from those presentations the last two years.
5. Locate some new water.

So, here is some of my featured gear for the year(minus jigs, I haven’t organized them yet).

The first pic is of some of my favorite spinnerbaits. Mega bass. The brown/orange is what I caught two six pounders on last year at wolf run two days before they drained it. I have some of them paired with reaction innovations little dippers and some kvd caffeine shad.

The second pic is of my hard baits. I will continue to destroy bass on my Berkeley choppo in bone with a red feathered hook and some red permanent marker highlights-like inhave for the last 3 years. But I intend to land some bass on lipless (most of these are Ark brand) while the others(the green pumpkin and red lipless) are from a monster bass or mystery tackle box but I really like them. I will eventually figure out the brand.

The third pic is my chatterbaits. A mix of zman, thunder crickets, and I plan to try the zman stealth blade paired with their mud minnow.

The fourth pic is my ned rig box. Just to stick to the basics and the company where it all began, I am going with zman trd’s, goats, and craws-paired with their ned rig lock jig heads. I added a skirt to a couple of the rigs. I also like to use nikko helgramites as well, but zman doesn’t play well with other plastics and will melt the world to goo if you aren’t careful.

So, what are your 2023 goals? What techniques do you plan to use? Any new waters you plan to explore? Post em here!

Chatterbaits, lipless, and jerkbaits are some of the most productive lures out there for me. I got away from the lipless and bit, but years ago it gave me a 7 pounder.

Chatterbaits and jerkbaits are king. The amount of smallmouth, pike, and largemouth I’ve caught on these lures is insane. The jerkbait has also probably produced around 1,500 schoolie/slot striped bass in the past 2 years. That cold water twitch twitch pause is a really fun bite

I’d recommend spending the extra bucks on a zman jackhammer. They just thump better. One of my favorite trailers is the missile baits baby destroyer, something that they don’t see often.

Yeah they were introduced here to combat invasive carp populations. Getting a big one is tough here. This one actually came back 3 times for my lure and ate it at my feet. Pike eats can be spectacular

I took a roadtrip this weekend to play a show & fish in the mountains (will go thru that footage later this week) but i stopped to throw a few at Bass Lake CA on the drive home....

Side Nerd Note: my NEW GoPro11 footage would not work with my software, so i had get a whole new version and relearn it......ooooffff

Fished one of my Back Country spots not too far from Yosemite. Really happy how this foogage and audio comes out with the GoPro 11....

You guys see the video of a huge shark speeding towards a kayak and shooting out of the water and chomping the kayak?
