Let's talk about Stipes head movement against Ngannou

If it's "very easy", then why didn't Overeem exhibit good head movement when he fought Francis?

Nobody said Stipe's head movement is on par with Anderson's, but it's pretty good for a heavyweight.
Overeem tried to move his head but he moves his head much slower than Stipe. He also planted his feet in one spot for way too long. Stipe moved his head brilliantly but he also made sure that he moved his feet to get out of danger after Ngannou missed one or two times. If he had stayed planted and just tried to move his head for defense he may have gotten nailed by one of those hays.

I remember Overeems head moving quite quickly at the end of that fight.....

Head movement is for pussies!

It's basically the same as tapping to strikes.

If anyone tells you slipping punches is easy has simply not stepped in a ring in a sparring session EVER. I know you can get the feeling you can dodge slow punches or 1-2s but just try sparring with someone.

It's not only really hard to slip punches when you first start sparring but it takes some good time to get used to.

That's just when you're sparring in a friendly match. Imagine a 6'4" monster who's incredibly fast and throwing sledge hammers towards you... One little off movement and you're out cold.

Head movement that Miocic showed there is very praise worthy.

Sorry farmer fred Stipe fan. Most American viewers could understand the African and not the American. He was fucked up and won by wrestlefuck as well as not being able to finish a man who was gassed after 2 minutes. Stipe says himself that he felt Ngannou was gassed after 2 minutes. Yet he fought like a bitch. Sorry your hero is a bitch.
Oh, your heart aches <mma1>

Are you really from Ohio, if so is Stipe well known there?
Yeah I'm about 45 mins away from Cleveland. I knew him from NAAFS whoch is a smaller promotion... used to be televised on a local channel in Ohio.

Once he won the title and defended in Cleveland more casual people started paying attention. And a lot of random sports fans around here were watching the last fight even though they arent that knowledgeable in MMA

Stipe's no p*ssy though. Maybe it was just a reflex from his baseball playing days when he had to get his head out of the way of a wild fastball. I'm sure next time he'll keep his chin on the center line all night to show us Sherdoggers he's a real man. Like one of us.

Strip it then. If anyone thought Stipe came in there terminator style like he was just going to beat the shit out of Francis then, I guess Im wrong. Stipe looked scared.
I don’t see how slipping punches and getting out of the way of being KO’d then proceeding to outstrike and out grapple your opponent is fighting scared.

I am not seeing too many people talk about this post fight. It is the reason he not only survived against Ngannou but beat him in rd 1 unlike Arlovski, Reem and Bojan. For those of you that don't know Stipe took 1-2 years off early in his MMA career to focus just on boxing, before he came back to MMA full time. He credits this time off from MMA as to why his striking is evolved to the point it is. Not only did it improve his striking offense, but his defense as well which I feel was on full display against Ngannou. I am sure that some people are going to reply to this with him getting KO'd by Struve, or him being tagged by (enter name here) but everyone gets hit at the end of the day. The advantage he has because of this experience is obvious though when it comes to slipping strikes and countering as well as rolling with punches.

^GOAT stipe gif right here, Anderson SIlvaesqe in his head movement Joe^

^ beautfiul slip to straight jab ^

giphy.gif

^ rolled with a nice hook from Ngannou into a sick level change ^

Shoutout to @Sansnom for the gifs (si t'es un francophone, merci big) I found these in his thread he made http://forums.sherdog.com/threads/stipe-vs-ngannou-recap-gifs-inside.3697309/

Anyways, I attribute Stipes early success to his head movement if I am being honest. Ngannou has him against the cage and within range a few times and he mostly whiffed telegraphed punches in the first round. Not only is it hard on the cardio but it is very very hard on the confidence, nothing worse than hitting air infact. In rd 1 Stipe outstruck Ngannou with 24 of 33 strikes while Ngannou only landed 18 of 65 total strikes. Those are fantastic numbers to back up how far ahead Stipe is in not only wreslting and grappling, but striking as well when compared to Ngannou.

Anyways I could ramble on forever, thanks for listening.

Cliffs - Amazing head movement by Stipe against Ngannou, very impressed.
Agreed.
Well said

its easy to move your head when the opponent telegraphs monster single punches with no threat of a combo.
In all fairness all the gifs people always post of tyson and sweet pea Whitakers defense are of them bobbing and weaving around over extended monster hooks and uppercuts that were slower than franc's punches

To survive by the most pussiest means and call yourself the "baddest man on the planet", and you applaud this. Go jump off of anything. Pussy.

Very easy to look like you have "great" head movement when you're scared shitless. Its the ones who move forward and arent hesitant that display it, that makes me think they are great at it. Stipe in the opening minute was fucking petrified. Call it however you want. He didnt want to be hit. And btw Andersons head movement lead to counters that fucked people up, Stipe simply ran outta there(early on).
Youre out of your element- youre a monday morning quarterback.

It's hilarious to watch someone get dismantled and they act clueless that it's happening
