Let's talk about Conor vs Alvarez

If you never watched Eddie fight, he would get rocked in almost all of his fights.

Also, it was a horrible strategy standing in front of Conor, playing to Conor's biggest strength.

Eddie would've been much smarter to clinch against the cage and spam takedown attempts, even if they wouldn't result in a takedown. Tiring out Conor's arms, and pushing his cardio would've setup for a much better 2nd round.

Instead, Eddie abandoned takedowns very early, and opted to stand in front of Conor.

Personally I think it was more of a horrible strategy, but I won't deny that Conor was much more skilled on the feet and a lot faster than Eddie.

Had Eddie used the first round to gas out Conor's arms and his cardio in general, he could've shown a much better offering on the feet.

Eddie let Conor control the distance, and his longer reach and accuracy was too much for him.

Alvarez took a dive that matchup

The UFC wanted Conor to be a double champ badly so they manufactured it and paid Eddie very well to go down in 2nd round
Planned so well they didn't have a second belt on hand for him

Conor has great stand up. Once he landed the first solid left hand it was a wrap for Alvarez. Conor was the new generation and Alvarez's generation was on the way out.

Eddie was tailor made to make Conor look good. He's a brawler who's decent at everything, not great at anything, and kind of wilted under the pressure and threw out any kind of game plan and stood there in Conor's strength and let him dictate the fight.

There are a number of reasons Eddie looked so bad many have been stated already in this thread , I’ve watched the fight several times and I think Connor hurt him badly early and Eddie was on cruise control for the rest of the fight

It's a bad matchup for Eddie, and that's pretty much it. People shit on Eddie a lot on here tho. He's easily an ATG at lw.

Alvarez is good, but basic. At that point that kind of fighter was easy pickins for Conor, who had a way of catching guys with shots they didn't see coming. Alvarez was clearly uncomfortable early and started reaching. That was a wrap.

Alvarez is a dog, and if he was still in the UFC he'd be up there with Justin, Mike, Dustin trio

Conor haters would rather shit on the guy instead of just admitting that a prime Conor was actually really good

If that's the case Conor is going to do the same same against Chandler

A low IQ brawler, right?

The weakest 155 champ of the modern era lost to the second weakest 155 champ of the modern era.
Agreed. I liken Alvarez winning the LW title over Dos Anjos to Sera over GSP or Bisping over Rockhold. Big underdog that won. He was only 4-3 with an NC in the UFC, and has only been 1-2 with an NC since leaving for OneFC. Very average. He fought a dumb fight against a peak conman and got destroyed.

Conor had a great fight. Go figure. Conor slept Aldo ffs, give the man his due. People always denigrate any of his wins they can and maximize his losses.

alvarez choked. he wasn't ready for all the media, fans, and theatrics that conor brings.

it was also low IQ. He likes to scrap, brawl, make it dirty. You can't fight conor like that.
Eddie never chokes. He was even getting the better of him during some of the interviews.

It was peak Conor no booze no coke, no (cte or lifted of it) pre Floyd pre Khabib Conor he was focussed and Eddie completely got out classed

That was peak focused, hungry, driven, sober Conor

Now he we have the drunk Instagram model, bodybuilder Conor

I mean, short guys with no reach who want to stand in front of Conor and get picked apart is kind of the formula the UFC has used to make Conor look great, it's a fantastic matchup for Conor, don't believe all the dork fangirls that say Conor is washed because he lost to good fighters who were not midget sluggers, hes still just as good as ever and would probably wreck Chandler.

That said, I dont think the fight happens.

Probably. Not the exact same thing, because Conor's quite a bit slower than he was 7 years ago, but even after losing a few steps it's still probably the best matchup for him.
