It amazes me that people say he is not that great or overrated, he has lost to some top guys and also beat top guys as well, at this point in his career he stands at 30-7, he was the champ in bellator and the ufc, compare shogun he did great in pride and won the grand prix, his ufc career wasnt great but he won the belt. Same with eddie.

As far as as his style he is a technical brawler, more so than mike perry lol, he also is like edgar in which he would get rocked bad but had no quit and could survive/win the fight at times.

imo he is great, win or lose..

underrated. He did a lot before joining the UFC then finally joined the UFC had ups and downs, finally won the belt and the got starched by conor in his biggest fight. Most of the mainstream does not really know him outside the conor fight. Still had impressive performances after conor as well.

i like his style and i love watching his fights
i think he is underrated

Anybody who gets his ass kicked that bad by Conor can’t be that good

He is underrated to those who think he is some sloppy bum with no skill because of his loss to Conor

But he is overrated to those who think he is some all-time great fighter. His resume looks good but there are multiple iffy decisions that most didn't think he deserved to win, plus his losses are never close or competitive. He's almost always getting finished or blown out of the water.

He's the quintessential overachiever that had a good career because of hard work, toughness, and some luck. His skillset is high school level wrestling + basic boxing without any depth technically.
I have to agree with you on the last part, his wrestling and boxing aren't great but its solid, great cardio and heart/toughness helped him a lot.

I think he had an amazing career. People dont realize he was already a vet before he even signed with the ufc. The fact he was able to win gold is incredible. Plus he is tiny for 155 these days

He's definitely a top 10/15 all time LW..

Wins over Pettis, Gaethje, RDA, Melendez, Chandler, Patricky Freire, Aoki, Pat Curran, Roger Huerta, Tatsuya Kawajiri.. etc.

UFC and Bellator champ.

luckiest champion in the UFC ( it is between him and bisping at this point ). Got a title shot in the most stacked division of the sport just with 1 loss and 2 split decision loss !

Not even facing khabib and tony who were already on long win streaks and in the top 5.

Mystic Mac said it best ...

I think he's probably rated correctly by most at this point in time.

At his peak, a fringe elite fighter who was probably in the category of "good to very good" in and around his prime. Very healthy resume and very solid (but not GOAT-level) list of top wins.

Stacks are definitely against him but I honestly would not be surprised if he beat either at the time.

Hard to say.

He can look like a total can and the best fighter in the world in the same fight sometimes.

Bad question. Because you're asking if he's Over/Under rated by who? By sherdoggers, right? Or fans in general?

Well, Sherdog and general fan opinion on him seems to be like daily tides, with 2 peaks.

A great many people think he's mediocre and a great many think he's an all-time great. And since both opinions are prevalent here, he's both very overrated by many, and very underrated by many.

So the answer is, undoubtedly, either "both" or "neither".

he would beat none at the time, and never actually ... cowboy beat alvarez, tony made cowboy quit by striking ...
Lol and the khabib fight, let's not even talk about it, the dude gass after every clinch, got taken down in almost all his fight against a wrestler.

He is a brawler, brawlers just win by either lucky punch ( like the RDA fight ) or by beating other brawlers ( justin fight ). You put a technical fighter in front of him and he starts to speak chinese.

His record speaks for itself.

Underrated. Def top 15 LW of all time.

He's rated about right, very good fighter but just not the best in the division
