Lets settle this: Eddie Alvarez..underrated or overrated?

He is underrated to those who think he is some sloppy bum with no skill because of his loss to Conor

But he is overrated to those who think he is some all-time great fighter. His resume looks good but there are multiple iffy decisions that most didn't think he deserved to win, plus his losses are never close or competitive. He's almost always getting finished or blown out of the water.

He's the quintessential overachiever that had a good career because of hard work, toughness, and some luck. His skillset is high school level wrestling + basic boxing without any depth technically. He has my respect because he is a blue collar guy who has displayed insane heart in his fights.

wins over:

- Kawajiri
- Aoki
- Michael Chandler
- Joachim Hansen
- Gilbert Melendez
- Anthony Pettis
- Raphael Dos Anjos
- Justin Gaethje

Bellator Champ 2X, UFC champ

If you have to make a list of best LWs of all time, I am not sure how Alvarez isn't in the top 10.

btw: Ya'll don't know who Eddie Alvarez is do you??

Looked far better in Bellator than he did in the UFC is all I know...

Overrated by some, underrated by others.

Bingo.

A lot of people hear his name and immediately flashback to Conor absolutely decimating him, forgetting all the accolades he accumulated throughout his career. Others ignore the fact that three of his biggest victories were very close, hotly contested decisions in Chandler, Melendez, and Pettis.

Personally, I don't think he's either. I've never seen anyone argue that he's one of the top five best lightweights ever, which I believe would be overrating him. On the other hand, I've never seen anyone make the case that he's outside the top fifteen greatest lightweights ever, which I believe would be underrating him. He gets a fair overall judgement of his career in my opinion.

That loss to Connor was devastating. He was doing pretty good up until that point.

Underrated. Anyone who says over is a new fan or highly uneducated/biased

Eddie's arguably 0-2 against Chandler, and most thought he lost to Pettis and Melendez.

1. Khabib
2. Tony
3. BJ
4. Benson
5. Frankie
6. Gomi
7. RDA
8. Pettis
9. Sherk
10. Cowboy
Nobody thought he lost to pettis and melendez. Especially not melendez who had very little moments in the whole fight

Underrated, he's easily one of the 5 best LWs of all time but people act like he's a bum.

Good fighter that has had some of the best fights in the history of the division.

Not an all time great or anything. Not sure how he is rated

Underrated IMO. Everyone should re-watch his fight with Chandler under the Bellator banner. Some really great MMA happene in those fights. Bellator and UFC champ? Come on... Conor drubbing did him no favors tho.

I don't think Cowboy is top 10. I guess it depends on how much being champ matters. When it comes to the big fights, Eddie comes to kill or be killed. Cowboy comes to be killed. Sherk is also tainted by PEDs

He was underrated until Conor beat him now he is a can

That whole list is whack man lol.

Eddie is so disrespected because this forum was overrun with Conor worshipping children that parrot his lines. Alvarez vs Gaethje was one of the greatest LW fights of all time, and his catalog is filled with similar displays of heart and skill.

This.

I put him on the same level as Cerrone. A perennial contender and high level fighter, but never quite elite. Yes, he got the strap, but via a couple wall-and-stall SDs and beat a badly faded RDA.
