Shooto was the first MMA organization? That's false.

Sherdog lists Brazilian Vale Tudo events from the 1970s 1980s as official MMA events and fights, featuring guys like Marco Ruas.

The UFC (and by extension modern MMA), are rooted in these events, not Japanese pro-wrestling or Shooto.

Marco Ruas invented MMA in 1985

The Tough Guy organization from 1979-1983 predated Ruas and was basically American MMA long before the UFC. It was also more commission-friendly than the early UFCs with weight classes and rounds. Sadly, it got banned in 1983 because of a death in a Tough Man contest (boxing bareknuckle--totally diffferent organization).
