Opinion Leopards Are Eating My Face Thread/Having The Day You Voted For

genuine libertarians can definitely now count themselves amongst those whose faces are eaten by those ravenous, rapacious leopards;

The data analytics firm Palantir is building a master list of personal information on Americans that could give president Donald Trump immense surveillance power.

The president signed an executive order in March calling for the federal government to share data across various agencies, and while he hasn't publicly spoken about the effort since, officials have been putting the plan into place with the help of the publicly traded tech firm Palantir, which the government has paid at least $113 million since Trump took office, reported the New York Times.

"The push has put a key Palantir product called Foundry into at least four federal agencies, including [the Department of Homeland Security] and the Health and Human Services Department," the newspaper reported. "Widely adopting Foundry, which organizes and analyzes data, paves the way for Mr. Trump to easily merge information from different agencies, the government officials said. Creating detailed portraits of Americans based on government data is not just a pipe dream."

"The Trump administration has already sought access to hundreds of data points on citizens and others through government databases, including their bank account numbers, the amount of their student debt, their medical claims and any disability status," the report added.
The professed libertarians I have met (I jokingly call them right-wing anarchist) are some of the most insufferable assholes on the planet. Fuck 'em.

there seems to be a strong correlation between 'libertarians' and devout fans of Ayn Rand which is a big turnoff but i will definitely make allowances for the existence of genuine libertarians. sure, I never met one, but they definitely exist.

An "Ayn Rand" phase is common but being stuck in that is a bad character flaw. That makes you a selfish, unsympathetic asshole.

Now due to voting against their own interests (undocumented workers), a LOT of farms will be foreclosed on and bought up by big Agriculture.

Well look, their hands were tied. One side looked like this:

Meanwhile, the other side's all

Losing their business is a small price to pay to get the other side to go away.

They are going away... right?

i could deal with the selfishness reasonably well, like as a philosophical standpoint on life, if it was actually well-expressed and well-formulated (like say in Nietszche), if Rand wasn't such an inept philosopher and such a shitty godawful writer. that combination of rhetorical ineptitude and a groundless conviction in the probity of her opinions is both baffling and extremely annoying.

And all that "sturm und drang" will cost them is a farm that has been in their family for nearly a century. But at least they owned the libs, that one time... Right?

500,000 immigrants who were given LEGAL asylum have had that asylum revoked. Now, you have get on the plane and go back because you were told "Barack is Fidel! Hillary is Fidel! Biden is Fidel! Kamala is Fidel!" And some people were duped into believing that.

You hear that sound? That's the sound of a torturer in those countries slicing Habanero peppers into slivers to slide up your d1ckhole.

Job corps gave GENERATIONS of people a leg up and a way out by learning useful trades, but now?

You get bootstraps.

No Job Corps?

No George Foreman (R.I.P.). His youth center in Texas is still helping out kids to this day.

With the G.O.P.? The cruelty is the point.

This is fucking infuriating.
Republicans are always telling the youths to not go to college, and get into the trades. Job Corp gave the opportunity for people from all walks of life to learn a valuable trade skill, and make a good living.

Ayn Rand collected social security...

The fact that that bitch died on food stamps is hilarious. Besides for her awful ideology, I hate her for how terrible of a writer she was. I almost always finish books I start, even if I don't like them, but I just couldn't. I made it up to the rape scene in The Fountainhead and threw that shit across the room.

She also said the link between smoking and lung cancer was communist propaganda, then got lung cancer from smoking so much.

Thanks for sharing

I always thought her philosophies and libertarianism were pseudo intellectual ideas.

After doing some google fu I found this interesting article that confirms my belief

I had read enough to know that she despised government interference, and that she felt that people should and could live independently. She was coming to a point in her life where she was going to receive the very thing she didn’t like.… For me to do my job, she had to recognize that there were exceptions to her theory.… She had to see that there was such a thing as greed in this world.… She could be totally wiped out by medical bills if she didn’t watch it. Since she had worked her entire life and had paid into Social Security, she had a right to it. She didn’t feel that an individual should take help.
Finally, Rand relented. “Whether she agreed or not is not the issue,” said Pryor, “She saw the necessity for both her and [her husband] Frank.” Or as Weiss puts it, “Reality had intruded upon her ideological pipedreams.” That’s one way of interpreting the contradiction: that Rand’s philosophy, Objectivism, “has no practical purpose except to promote the economic interests of the people bankrolling it”—the sole function of her thought is to justify wealth, explain away poverty, and normalize the sort of Hobbesian war of all against all Rand saw as a societal ideal.

It's like watching someone about to piss on an electric fence. You told them not to do it, but they scream "I'm doing it anyway because I was told this special underwear will keep me safe!"

I remember when the GOP said that the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) would cause "death panels" for healthcare facilities.

Well, they solved a problem that never existed with this one.

Audience member - "People are going to die because of these cuts (to Medicare and SNAP (Food Stamps)

Sen. Joni Ernst - "Well, everybody's gonna die..."

If everybody's going to die, then we can cancel her US taxpayer funded health care.
She's going to die anyway, so fuck it. Why waste money on her if she's going to eventually die.

J.P. Morgan says that the U.S. Bond WILL take a hit. When that happens...

The fecal matter has hit the indoor air circulation device.

Giving you MAGA types plenty of warning what is coming see if you can figure it out before it happens. I mean what could go wrong Trump throwing paper towels at supporters in Texas and Florida?

We have former NOAA workers putting up the red flag about the current weather pattens and even changes in the global warming leading to potentially legendary weather conditions. Given this could be a few months away would it not be prudent that the Government set people in place to give people the support ahead of this storm season?
This guy is a weather forecaster with years of experience famous for storm chaser putting up a red flag for what is ahead. He talked about storms that dropped 60 inches of rain that hit Florida and Texas we could be far worse.

Texas like a few days ago nothing to see here.

Remember the last time in Texas they where out of power for seriously long time and it was freezing out. Wash rinse and repeat.

"
WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz returned to Texas on Thursday and expressed regret for his trip to Cancún, Mexico after being chastised by both Republicans and Democrats for leaving his state as it buckles under the severe effects of a devastating winter storm.

"Look, it was obviously a mistake and in hindsight I wouldn't have done it," he said.

Cruz, known to double down in the face of controversy, was contrite in an interview with Houston affiliate KTRK where he acknowledged the gravity of criticism coming his way both within the state and beyond."

There is plenty of reason to prepare for what's to come at least lessen the dangers such as insuring there is personal on the ready in Texas make sure their grid is up to task and areas have systems in place to restore loss of power.
