I live in Illinois and recreational marijuana is supposedly about to become legal on January 1st 2020.

I am completely clueless as to how this system works. I'm looking for some insight from Sherdoggers who live in states that have already legalized.

How is the potency and price compared to what you used to buy illegally? Any other pertinent info that you want to throw at me is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Everything is better. Better selcetion, more options, better prices, better quality etc. Every place will have their own daily specials...use them to your advantage.

So the opposite of Canadian legalization.

Prices may start out high before the market adjusts. Soon Herb shops will be as common as Starbucks, the market hits saturation, and prices end up lower than they were during prohibition.

Illegal pot will dramatically drop in price, but eventually become unnecessary. Quality will go up and you’ll have access to amazing things that were being kept from you. Edibles, where you know exactly what and how much you’re eating, discreet vape pens where you can smoke on the go. It’s glorious.
Checking in from Colorado

Expect some growing pains especially at first. Find a provider based on quality and price like you would any other purveyor of goods and services. Enjoy your Freedom.

What he said
Although if it goes like Cali, they may leave it up to Counties to even allow physical dispensery storefronts. Some counties are more restrictive, but then usually at least allow delivery services as an option

Weedmaps will be your new friend, trust

Not quite. Especially here in California.

EDIBLES! Fucking edibles as far as the eye can see. So much better than smoking it.

Not quite. Especially here in California.

yeah, they tax the shit out of it!

I'm just sitting here in New Zealand, misty eyed and jealous, being a daily criminal.

We've got a vote coming up in 2020 on legalisation, and it can't get here quick enough.

I cannot wait to be able to pick specific strains etc instead of just getting "weed" from a guy.

if you maintained a RX for medical reasons, you don't pay the tax

i realize most people stopped obtaining one when it was legalized, but that's an option....just saying

uh or so I've heard

So the opposite of Canadian legalization.

This, prices are outrageous here in Ontario, Canada. Cheapest gram in the dispensary is like 12$ each. Apparently when edibles become legal its gonna be like 10mg per bag, so you'll need to buy like 10 bags to feel anything.

try out a dozen different dispensaries and dial in a good one. not all are created equal by any means. some med dispensaries I've been to in Colorado springs were surprisingly bad. from weak buds to contaminated concentrates.

Altitude Organics in co springs had some of the best product around. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

In Belgium (Europe) they have already some cannabis shops where they sell weed that has high CBD but very low THC. So you can smoke it and you will feel calm and it tastes a bit like real weed but you will not get high.
I don't know how it will be like that in you country but I suspect the same.
In Italy where I went on vacation it's the same thing.
In the Netherlands they sell real weed with serious THC that gets you high, but from now on they only sell it to Dutch people anymore I believe so you cannot buy it if you are foreign.

Bottomline, if it doesn't have much THC in it, there is not much point to it.

lol....$12 gets you a 250mg peanut bhudda bar made by incredibles at my old go to place (the best edible brand around imo)

I live in San Bernardino County, biggest county in the US, and they leave it up to the city. Our city, and the next one over have banned storefronts due to the Marine Base being our largest employer

But if you go 40ish miles, you're in Riverside County down in Palm Springs, and there's like seriously 100, including Mike Tyson's new ranch in Desert Hot Springs

When it was just medically legal, the Palm Springs area only had like 8. It's blown up massively

For us, what they do is technically locate a delivery service 'outside city limits' and thus aren't under a City Council but the County, that's how we have delivery services despite not being supposed to hahahah

This is from the link I posted:
"Users will have to pay heavy sales taxes on the cannabis they purchase in Illinois. A 10% tax will be imposed on marijuana products containing less than 35% tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the compound that gets users high, while products with higher doses of THC will carry a tax of up to 25% or more."

Is 35% THC a lot? I have no idea what % of THC the stuff that I would come across illegally in recent years contained but it was always pretty damn strong. It has been quite awhile since I've smoked.

I'm from the bay area originally the east bay Oakland region to be specific. I've been a member of clubs since you had to he a medical patient lol.

The prices then were double in the clubs then on the streets.

Now I live in Modesto and obviously weed is legal here now there are multiple clubs in my town and surrounding region.

The quality ranges from top shelf to brown rag weed.

Prices are really affordable from 15$ - $35 an eighth and really whatever strain you want you can generally find.

Concentrates of every type are available crumbles, oils, extracts, etc etc again affordable prices.

In my experience the legalization process is positive for all parties involved. The consumer has access to quality product now overseen for quality by the government for harmful shit your street dealers dint give 2 shits about. The state gains millions from the clubs and the owners of clubs become very rich. The street value drops significantly even helping out ppl too lazy to go to clubs.Only ppl negatively affected are the dealers on the streets.
