Leg sweeps in MMA?

Cmon, just be honest and straight forward and say it like it is. It's cuz for the most part mma striking sucks and most mma guys have shitty striking for the most part.
Ya pretty much, with a few exceptions. But I think that's because its so simplified. I think there has been more of a migration towards fighters being good at everything and not GREAT at anything, again with a few exceptions. I wish more fighters would adopt more complex techniques and strategy into their striking. The ones that do tend to excel.

You haven't been watching Machida's moves that closely...

He uses sweeps a lot.

Machida is the shit. Love that guy:D

Compared to boxers like Hatton, De La Hoya, etc. and kickboxers like Sato or Nagashima.

Well no offense to anyone becuase I do like boxing, but there just isn't even a comparison to be made. You could put the best boxer next to the best mixed martial artist in the octagon and chances are, the boxer is going to get demolished. Honestly WTF would Oscar De La Hoya or Hatton do if someone threw a Thai kick at their thigh? (besides fall down); and vice verca if you made a mixed martial artist play by boxing rules hed probably get messed up. And as far as straight ram muay/kickboxers go striking in MMA is just a different game. It's a lot easier to clinch with someone, throw head kicks etc etc, when you don't have to worry about being taken down and choked unconcious.

Catch and sweep! Used so much in Muay Thai and at times in MMA when the kick is caught. See a lot more low leg and mid kicks in MMA thoguh to prevent being caught.

because sweeps are not allowed in thaiboxing ( you have to kick) or boxing and 99% of mma fighters train there stand up in those two sports. the only guys you really see use them are those with a judo background (but normally from a clinch) and karate guys so basically lyoto. even most wrestlers dont really favour sweeps as its not used as much in wrestling as it is in judo.

i did chinese kickboxing and karate as a teenager so i tend to use them and thay work well against thaiboxers with a rear leg sweep jab cross combo as thay tend to check when thay see a leg comming at them and also to set up the double leg. a sweep workks really well to set up a double leg infact most of the shots i score when we are boxing with takedowns comes from sweeping the lead leg and then shooting for a take down, try it, it works really well.

Did you guys even read the initial post?

Having trained a bit of kickboxing, I notice that kickboxers often use simple leg sweeps to pull their opponent out of balance. I'm not talking about the grand leg sweeps seen in Wushu or Thai boxing. They're used more like part of a combination. A few straight punches, sweep your opponent's foot so he's off balance and then finish with a devastating hook or uppercut.

But I rarely ever see this used in MMA. Why not?
You guys are talking about trips and throws, he's talking about when fighters make opponents stumble by sweeping their lead leg so that they can set up combinations off of it........

Yeah, like when you launch a head-kick and someone kicks your support leg from under you, so you land on your ass.

We're talking about striking. A boxing oriented MMA fighter can't hang with a boxer and a kickboxing oriented MMA fighter can't hang with a kickboxer because they all suck when it comes to striking. MMA fighters only train in it to be good enough, they don't train to be the best striker or the best grappler like Machida.
