Leadwerks making good on their promise to bring their studio to Linux. They will top it all by making it available on Ubuntu software center for download. The gaming engine is free of any fees and is unlimited to the number of units sold. Meaning unlike Unreal gaming engine with a 5 percent per unit fee and 20 dollars a month licence. There is only the one time price for download and no fees per unit. Leadworks will charge you to download the tool at 99.00 dollars for Indie developers and the full studio is 199.00 so not too bad.

These are early prototypes apparently?

Example of games developed using Leadwerks.

ehh...can't really compare this engine to unreal engine though can you? I mean there isn't even one major release from this engine is there?

No you cannot but for indie developers who have trouble paying for electricity to power their computer its not to bad.

It would be really awesome to see linux really get a big jump over windows. I wish I was as good with linux as I was with windows haha. If there wasn't games on windows I really wouldn't use it.

Game development on Linux is improving exponentially. Valve developed a tool that allows you to port your DirectX 8 games over to Linux. There was the announcement of Unreal Engine 4 is being ported over to Linux as well as their 20 dollar a month development studio. This on top to Unity already given a vast amount of support as well as DICE rumor that they are working on a new version of their engine for Linux.

Valve is all in with Linux development working with the Linux community on improvements for development. To say that Valve is excited about Linux development would be an understatement even as their SteamOS is only gaining slow momentum. Valve and others understand that change does not happen overnight especially with the epic lead that Microsoft has in gaming.

Microsoft also is not going out easy even with rumors of them getting out of the Console gaming business "not going to happen my thoughts on the matter". Microsoft has been working harder getting developers on board and rumored to be working on a new network for developers. Linux has a real future especially in emerging markets as well as robotics. Linux has a massive lead in robotics almost all development is being done on Ubuntu Linux. I have seen amazing controller boards that incorporate quad core arm chips running Ubuntu with 32 bit arduino analog and digital controllers. They control robotics and create whole new markets.
