Law enforcement is most obese profession - study http://rt.com/usa/215803-law-enforcement-high-obesity/

Maybe being out of shape has to do with why they always use excessive force?

Source is legit and peer reviewed (american journal of preventative medicine).

A study on the prevalence of obesity by occupation found nearly half the cops, firefighters and security guards in the United States are obese. Economists, scientists and psychologists scored the lowest rates of obesity.

Law enforcement personnel scored 40.7 percent on the American Journal of Preventive Medicine

These days you dont have to give foot chases to catch a purse snatcher, you just shoot them and say they reached into their waistband. Doing actual work is hard and quite tiring

Wow just read this article, it is actual journalism. Well researched. Sad that RT has more journalistic integrity than Fox.

No...if they are 86 you taser them instead.

Not surprised give the stress, shift towards vehicular patrols over foot patrols in most places and the tendency towards cheap quick food given it may have to be abandoned at a moments notice to respond to a call

Is it against policy for police to bring lunchboxes to work?

This explains it perfectly. 12 hours a day in a car wondering if the next call/red light/corner is your last is not good for fitness. Not too mention all the positive press they tend to get ;)

Imo job w physical demands like this should require certain level of physical fitness. A fit cop can chase or detain a person without having to shoot or tase them. Fat cop like in above pics is less likely to be able to do this.

Imo someone should do a study that compares physical fitness with use of force. The data already exists, can be retrospective.

There's a lot of jobs where people sit in a chair for most of their workday.

Where, in the squad car? I dont think most are in a position to go back to the precinct to get their lunch out of the fridge on a regular basis

Probably not as stressful and they probably have better accommodations to bring their own food if they want

stress releases cortisol, which makes you store fat. LEO's are not allotted the time to do PT on department dime. by the time you get off your shift you just want to go home and decompress. I love BJJ and sometimes I'm so tired I have to psych myself out into going.

so you are a cop that advocates torture, murder of civilians and all kinds of war crimes if it's your side the one committing them?

huh? yes I advocate torturing our enemies for actionable intelligence that will save American lives not sadomasochistic torture for sexual deviants like yourself. and I've never condoned war crimes but to paraphrase Col Kilgore " I love the smell of willie peter in the morning" "It smells like victory".

now stop trolling me LR or i'll have my CIA contact spam your email account to the point were you'll have to register for a new one:cool:

It is interesting that they have to pass a physical fitness test to get on the quad but they don't get tested yearly.

Here's what you need to be a Philly cop.

What do you expect... they only have to pass a physical evaluation when they join the force, but once they are in, there is no requirement for their fitness to be re-evaluated ever again.

This doesn't make any sense. They should have to be tested annually at least. I bet if you try to change this and make it annual, the police unions will go ape shit.

Fat ass cops won't stand for it because they know theyd be unemployed and working as mall cops after (shit even mall cops often have weight limits depending on employer). Imo plenty of fit people would step up to be cops and have a good job w benefits, Should fire the ones that can't meet the initial PFT standard

I think it's important to note that not all cops work a beat or are on patrol. You have detectives whose main job is investigations along with Internal Affairs
