I don't say this to disrespect anyone in particular or anything but I really can't imagine being so simple minded to think that the default rule for commentators should be that they're former fighters. I can't even count the number of ways that logic is stupid. I feel like it takes 2 seconds of thought to realize why that's not automatically (or hell, even  likely) true

We're talking personal preference here so respectfully, I don't think there are any wrong answers. I don't think Laura Sanko is unqualified for the job because she's a woman, or to cast aspersions on her as a person. What enriches my experience is someone who has fought in the Octagon at the highest level - that is of interest to me.

The job of Anik/Goldie, sure it can be anyone good at broadcasting with a cursory understanding of MMA. For technical breakdown? I don't want someone unqualified who's never been there. Its just less interesting to me.

As a practical matter - I would pay money to listen to UFC world title winners/challengers tell me their thoughts on a fight. I would not willingly pay money to have the Laura Sanko's of the world tell me their opinion, because I don't care.

Honestly the only commentator in the UFC I like is Felder. Maybe Cruz. The rest of them may have been professionals in the cage but amateurs on the headset.

See I hear people saying both things on opposite ends of the spectrum about her. A lot of people are saying that she’s way better than Bisping and DC.

Others go as far as saying that she isn’t good at all, and that she should be canned from the commenting desk

Honestly, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle

Sanko seems to be fairly intelligent, she just doesn't have the level of experience, knowledge, or even broadcast talent (i.e. she will never work outside of the MMA media world) that is typically required for the job.

As bad as DC and Bisping are, they were UFC champions. There is a level of insight they can give that is valuable.

Cut Laura Sanko from the commentator team. She constantly talks without substance, can't be critical of anything, and just complies and applauds everything she sees. I'm tired of people praising her commentary skills just because she's attractive. She had one poor pro fight against a complete scrub and acts like she could have been a top fighter, even though there's no evidence to support that whatsoever. We need commentators who aren't afraid to give honest, critical opinions, not someone like Laura, who just says what she thinks people want to hear.

You're mad at the wrong person, it's the ufc who choose their commentators Laura is just a nice chick making the best of an opportunity

Bisping does the exact same thing. Seems to just talk for the sake of talking.. saying the most cliche things ever.

The only difference is that as a former fighter and champion it doesn't quite sound as bad when Bisping spouts his generic nonsense.

Sanko is one of the better commentators, like Dom Cruz is annoying af, Rogan goes into podcast mode always yapping about STEEL MUAY THAI CUP, DC can get pretty brainless at times
