Pistols against wildlife? They're not really designed for that as far as I know and they're not really effective at it. Its not like you can't kill a coyote with a handgun but if you were to shoot one and you had a rifle and a pistol you'd take the former every time.

Semi auto hunting rifle can likely have a high capacity magazine too, just like an AR or AK. Whether or not that's legal in your state is another story.

It is ok to have some sort of personal defence. But of course that doesnt mean that we can walk around with snipers and machine guns on the street. Let's not be retarded here. The lowest common denominator is a good compromise solution.

Because it's cost prohibitive and for the most part it's usage would be extremely limited even for mere mastering of its capabilities to become proficient.

Well pistols have a limited capacity of rounds, and can’t reach very far, so things can get closer to you. I’ll give another example to help illustrate my point. My uncle is a rancher in the Black Hills of South Dakota. One day he was riding to check on the herd. As he rode he noticed a couple wolves in the distance eyeing him and making passes to test how alert he was. He pulled his rifle, before noticing that there was a whole pack stalking him. He managed to ride the several miles to his home, but they stalked him the whole way. He didn’t need to shoot any, but you can imagine, had they attacked him, how he would have preferred a lot more bullets than in a pistol, and also to shoot from a greater distance in order to keep himself and his horse safe.
