Larry Holmes vs Lennix Lewis?

duran was known to come in out of shape, Sugar Ray Robinson fought a guy tailored to give him problems when he was not in condition, Ali fought a string of guys off of slovenly training. Of course it matters, but when a guy loses as badly as your hero does, it makes an impression.

Duran lost on the back of slovenly training.

Well, in hypothetical match-ups like this, it's only proper to measure both fighters at their best and motivated. I think Lewis fights best when he has something to prove. His losses to Rahman and McCall were exceptions, not rules, and rubber matches were never in demand because consensus was Lewis beats them 9-10 times, and probably 10-10 times if he trains serious.

Holmes had a better jab, but not sure how well it would work against a guy of Lewis' stature and he can fire one of the most brutal rights in response in heavyweight history. Probably put Larry right off his game. I'ld take Lewis by right hand haymaker.

But it's close as hell IMO, if they fight 10 times I'd think Lewis wins at least 5, at most 7 times.

no, Larry was an experienced smart fighter, overhand rights were usually blocked by Larry lifting his elbow up and he also used his arms well to block shots. I think he would have most likely used angles to nullify the power of Lennox' right hand and even if he did get hit or put down, Shavers hit harder than anyone and couldn't keep him down. Larry had too much saavy for Lennox. Larry's jab was crisper and faster, his right hand was good and his other punches worked well in combinations.

Duran lost to a good technical fighter. Just like most of his losses.

I know, I just hate people making that excuse for Lennox and the guy mentioned Duran as if he was the opposite of Lennox in that regard.

Except Shavers was also way smaller than Lewis, and frankly, just wasn't that good. He really didn't beat people of consequence. Lewis is substantially more well rounded which changes the dynamic of how the fight would look IMO.

Lewis looked way out of shape against Klitshko. He gassed in no time.

That's your opinion, I happen to think he was pretty skilled for a bomber. Most experts also consider him the greatest puncher ever, Ali, Holmes have went on record saying he hit them the hardest. Holmes said Tyson's power was no comparison. Also, I'm just saying Larry could survive a bomb in his prime, had fantastic recuperative powers, he did it against Snipes too, not all fighters have that reservoir of heart and will but hey, he did learn a thing imitating the greatest. I like Lewis, more than I do Holmes, I just don't think he's in the same league and of course a few years from now I'll have to hear about how the Klitschkos would have beaten up on Ali and Holmes, it'll be the modern boxing dilemma now that America has effectively taken itself out of the picture.

he looked out of shape walking to the ring, me and my friend laughed our asses off at his fat head and thought it was like the scene in Great White Hype with Damon Wayans putting out a cig before going to fight.
