I dont know if fantasy match-ups are not allowed here but Id like to know what you guys think about this fight. who would have in there primes?

To me Holmes is underrated and I hear people saying Lewis was the best of all time alot, especially on these forums which I dont agree with.

So who you got, how would the fight be and why?

Two of the best of all time IMO.
I'd take Holmes. Holmes, at his best, was the total package. Lewis is great and has a better resume but Holmes would be the quicker guy with better technique, I think he'd find a way around Lewis's range. Lewis fought better guys than Holmes did, but Lewis never fought anyone as technically sound as Holmes.

kl, i agree.

who do you think lewis has beaten that were better? i wish lewis fought holifield and tyson when they were in there primes. not saying lewis wasnt better than them anyway. but they would have been harder fights.

I don't see Larry Holmes being an underdog to any guy he is faster than. And that fast guy needs to have a good left hook a la Michael Spinks, Mike Weaver, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield or Ken Norton. Not that it would be a walkover in any way, but I don't see Lewis being able to win exchanges the way he would have to.

You'd have a tough time coming up with a name at HW that Lewis didn't fight. Lewis and Holyfields primes didn't really line up with each other.

Lewis stomped around the ring like frankenstien, larry would box circles around him. By around the 8th round, Lewis would be exhausted and Larry would be just getting warmed up.

Didn't one of Holmes better opponents boxed similar to pre-Steward Lewis? I think it was Tim Witherspoon or Carl Williams. Both gave Holmes tough fights and I think Holmes was booed when the judges decision was announced.

I remember that Lennox was called the best athlete at heavyweight since Ali.
Holmes was a great technican, but not a great athlete. I think the Lennox version before Manny Steward can give Holmes a tough fight at least.

This is a hard fight for me, I would favor Holmes but he's really one of a very elite few I would favor over Lennox.

Lewis got knocked out by Rahman and McCall in his prime.

I just think that Holmes in his prime was slick enough to avoid most of lewis's shots and he had an pretty great chin even if he did get caught. An old Holmes fought a close to prime Holyfield in a fight that more than a few thought he won.

Even though I'm British, I really think Lewis was fortunate to fight certain fighters when he did.

Mcall, Rahman, getting rocked by Briggs, not convincing vs Klitchko and fighting the likes of Tyson and Holyfield who simply weren't in the peak of their careers didn't fill me with much admiration for his style.

Whilst I acknowledge his record is great, I just feel his style and personality were never exciting enough. Great power though (was it a downward punch against Botha that practically lifted him off his feet!)

His big names are about as big as Calzaghes in terms of context, only Calzaghe was very skilled combined with a fun all action style.

Vitali was in his prime, evander was still very good, tua and rahman were excellent when lewis beat them bruno was old and he beat that chicken in the olympics

Do holyfield, tyson, holmes have bigger victores holmes beat a brain dead ali tyson beat a brain dead holmes lennox has the best resume out of the four

I actually think the Holmes Tyson fought was still a pretty good fighter.

There was a Lennox Lewis thread recently I posted on that seemed to get deleted for no good reason, which seems to be the way around here. I've went straight to the top regarding it to get an answer, esp when you see substandard threads hanging around like dirty laundry for weeks.

And Bruno gave Lennox a boxing lesson until the got the right, Bruno made him look real bad.

Lennox would break him in a long fight imo.
